5 part scenario for "Forest Rail" route
TS2015 Forest Freight Scenario Set - ReadMe
Description: This package contains a 5 part scenario that covers 80% of "The Story of Forest Rail Route." You will be visiting portions
of the route that perhaps you have never seen, as these scenarios feature freight assets that are ignored by the scenarios provided with
the route.
Part 1 - Assemble your train in the Turntable equipped rail yard at the end of the Western Branch of the railroad. You will proceed
along the Western Branch to a point about 1/2 way to the Main Terminal. Along the way you will climb up to 5% grades. You will
pick up additional freight at a "recently re-opened" forest products center.
Part 2 - You will add additional freight and continue your journey down the Western Branch. You will end this part near the junction
of the west and east legs of the railroad.
Part 3 - Arriving at the freight yard near the railroad's headquarters, you will be engaged in shunting duties and in preparing for the
next leg of the journey. When your train is ready, you will climb from the valley up the Eastern Branch of the route, to Golden
Mine, a hidden coal loading facility.
Part 4 - You will use the mine shunter to move locos and freight cars in preparation for the return journey back down the Eastern Branch.
While the Yard Crew services your locos, you will use the shunter to fill your empty coal cars. Once the locos are serviced you will
assemble the train for the morning return trip.
Part 5 - Safely travel the return journey to the railroad's headquarters, making local and interchange coal deliveries. You will complete the
scenario by moving the two locomotives to the railroad's roundhouse. Note: For this return journey your locos will travel in reverse as
there is no turning facility at the mine.
Requirements: 1) "The Story of Forest Rail" route available as DLC from Steam or Just Trains.com
2) "GWR Small Prairies Loco AddOn" available as DLC from Steam
3) For new (post 2012) owners of Train Simulator - you MAY require the "European Loco and Asset Pack" also DLC from Steam
Disclaimers: 1) I know that the rolling-stock used is the wrong gauge. For those who are greatly bothered I am currently modifying
these scenarios for the DRGW K-27 narrow gauge locomotives. But even then the gauge will not match. Most users
should not notice that the wheel rims are slightly beyond the rail heads.
2) Getting steam engines up the steep grades will create a challenge for those who are not familiar with the
dynamics of steam locomotion. I would encourage those new to steam to find a tutorial on how to manage
steam locomotives. For all others, you can make your life a lot easier by turning off the Advanced Mode of the
Prairie Locomotives ( control-A ) and using automatic fireman. The trick is to maintain full 200 lb/sq in. boiler
pressure by gradually reducing the speed to less than 20 km/hr on the steepest grades.
At these slower speeds the fireman can keep the required pressure.
3) When the Prairie Locos are un-manned as in Part 4, their wheels do not rotate, but they otherwise behave as if
they were un-fired and the reverser was at neutral.
