Level Crossing Bell Sounds - by Richard S. (rscarter) Carter
rsadcros.zip - 398 KB
Add level crossing bell sounds to RS/RW US routes.
In a previous file (loudcros.zip), I provided a means to INCREASE the volume of the crossing bells on US Routes of Rail Simulator or RailWorks. A number of crossing signals in RS/RW, however, do not have crossing bells implemented at all. Because you can't increase the volume on non-existant bells, I have modified the models of these level crossing animated units to add the crossing bell sounds.
Back up the files in the following Rail Simulator or RailWorks directory:
Assets\Kuju\RailSimulatorUS\RailNetwork\LevelCrossings If you have any of Rich Garber's routes installed, back up the files in the following directory:
Assets\Allaboard\Trackplans\Scenery\Clutter
Unzip this file to a temporary directory. Run the AssetSetup.exe file. The program will ask you for where to install the assets and you can specify the Rail Simulator or RailWorks directory where you wish to install these modifications.
AssetSetup.exe will install the changed components, and delete the appropriate Blueprint.pak files so they can be rebuilt the next time you start Rail Simulator/RailWorks.
I have provided three volume levels for the level crossings and you can select which one suites you best. Browse to the following directory:
Assets\Kuju\RailSimulatorUS\Audio\RailNetwork\Crossing Among the files in this directory you will find
LouderCrossing.wav MediumCrossing.wav SoftCrossing.wav Simply copy one of these files to the crossing.wav file in the same subdirectory. By default, the LouderCrossing.wav is installed by the AssetSetup.exe program.
One of the nice advantages of these changes is that you can hear the level crossings from your engine or outside the cab, or in the passenger view or caboose if you are using those units where the passenger view is implemented. You can even hear the doppler effect as you approach and recede from the crossing. The bells have been implemented in a loop, so if you park over a crossing, the bell will continue to ring until you depart.
Please remember even those this file is free, the author still has rights to the file. Be sure to read the readme that is enclosed for further copyright information and instructions to install the file.
