Repaint for the RSC Big Boy Pack

Description

Northern Pacific Z-5 Yellowstone; 09 FEB 2018

Repaints by Rudi Jaeger, exclusively for the RSC Big Boy Pack available at the Steam Store. The actual Yellowstones were a 2-8-8-4 wheel arrangement, as opposed to the Big Boy's 4-8-8-4 design, so this repaint is intended only as a "stand-in" until a real Yellowstone might become availble.

------------------------------

Contents:

A Northern Pacific Z-5 Yellowstone with matching tender, featuring dynamic historical numbers and markings. Credits and thanks to the respective developer (RailSimulator.com) for providing the original textures which served as the foundation for this repaint. Although a repainted Big Boy tender is included, I highly recommned using the "NP Worn" Berkshire Tender which is included in my A3 Northern Pack (RWA Library) as it has the three-axle trucks and the appearance is similar to the tenders used with the actual Yellowstones.

------------------------------

History:

The first 2-8-8-4 Yellowstone was built in 1928 for the Northern Pacific Railroad by the American Locomotive Company, and began operation in March 1929. Eleven more Yellowstones, built by Baldwin Locomotive Works, were in operation by November, 1930. The Yellowstone fleet was assigned road numbers 5000 through 5011. At 128 feet long and 699,700 lbs, they were the largest locomotives in the world until the arrival of Union Pacific's Big Boy, over a decade later.

While the Big Boys were built during WWII and were scrapped after only 5 to 10 years of service, the Yellowstones were in service for nearly thirty years. Despite weighing 63,000 lbs less than a Big Boy, the Yellowstones had more weight on their drivers, resulting in a slightly higher total tractive force than a Big Boy (140,000 pounds of force for the Yellowstone, versus 135,000 pounds for the Big Boy).

The Yellowstones primarily operated between Glendive, Montana, and Mandan, North Dakota, until assignment of diesel power in 1944. They were then used as helpers at Livingston and Helena, Montana. The Northern Pacific began scrapping the Yellowstone fleet in September 1953, resulting in no surviving examples upon completion in June 1957.

Installation:

1. Transfer the Assets folder (from this zip file) into your main Railworks folder.

2. Find the RSC Big Boy Pack file, "UnionPacificBigboyAssets.ap", located here: Railworks/Assets/RSC/BigboyPack01/

3. Open "UnionPacificBigboyAssets.ap" using the same program used to open this zip file, and go to "RailVehicles/Steam/BigBoy/Default/Engine" and copy the following "Geo" files:

BB Superstucture.GeoPcDx
BB_FrontFrames.GeoPcDx
BB_RearFrames.GeoPcDx
Lightcone.GeoPcDx

Note: Holding the "Ctrl" key, you can left-click on each of the listed geo-files and simultaneously select them for copying.

Now paste the Geo files into the "Engine" folder of your Freshly installed NP Yellowstone located here:
Railworks/Assets/RSC/BigBoyPack01/RailVehicles/Steam/BigBoy/NP/Engine

4. Go back to the opened "UnionPacificBigboyAssets.ap" to "RailVehicles/Steam/BigBoy/Default/Tender" and copy-paste "BB_Tender_Coal.GeoPcDx" into the NP Tender folder:

Railworks/Assets/RSC/BigBoyPack01/RailVehicles/Steam/BigBoy/NP/Tender

Close the ap-file.

5. In the TS 2018 scenario builder/editor, select "RSC/BigBoyPack01" in the assets flyout panel (right-side of screen). Then look for the "NP Z5 Engine Front/Rear" and  "NP BB Tender" entries in the left-side assets-list to select the locomotive and tender repaints.

~ Mission complete.

Note: If you need an accompanying caboose for your freight consists, look for "NP_X200_Caboose" in the RWA library.
