Santa Fe served Fred Harvey quisine on the Super Chief. I was said to be the best food aboard any train.

Wonder wether Hack will model a Fred Harvey place setting on those neat dinner tables?

Poly count a bit high, the price you pay for detail?
Aren't modern computers capable of more detail or is RSC graphics engine still the limiting factor?
What about the resolution of the bitmap wrappers and textures? Do these influence rendering performance?

I haven't yet run into any problems with high poly counts, but you can never tell how something might work on another's PC. Since it's the only car completed thus far, it'll have to be tested in a 10-car block so as to get an idea on performance. This will help determine the direction I take with the other cars in the set.
Cheers!

For something you're going to have less of in a scenario than a locomotive, I don't really see a reason to use many less polys than a locomotive, tbh. Or lets say worst case scenario is you're in external view & there's a pair of 18 car trains crossing each other; 36 high poly cars on screen vs say 180 for a pair of freights ( admittedly those will LOD off in the distance ). There's no reason to use polys when you can use something else, but I reckon just go for it :)

one thing i might beg for, when you map these can you make it possible for us to do repaints say for Amtrak Phase 1 and SCL with the Heralds on the ends, in MSTS it was near impossible
just a shy request if possible Marc

SCL and some other roads will need longer nameplates above the windows. I can make the plates an alpha object so you can repaint directly onto the car, however.

Heh, this is where you find mirroring the glass on one side to make the other means the rain flows in different directions?

Color for one of the texture slots determines droplet direction.
