No change in DX12 for me, still choppy. I followed the guide to update C++ and installed the physics for NVIDIA. Still have the update start screen v73.7a. nothing hit my porch after the update. One strange thing, I opened a FR scenario that has been working and received an immediate derail notification. The consist had telescoped. Open the editor and stretched the consist. all well. This was in DX12.

Not anyone's daddy, but this update actually made me respect DTG more than before. Most game providers would have dropped this old title years ago, especially if they had a new one in direct competition with it. But DTG chose to keep maintaining and improve this ancient code.

I was expecting them to keep milking the cow and just publish DLC. Instead they announced their intention to improve the old code and publish updates dedicated to only this, no eye candy, no bells and whistles. That takes guts.

It was to be expected that this would create some problems in the short term, with a stable code base as a result, and a stable game as the final result. Discovering glitches in 3rd-party assets and having 3rd-party developers clean up their assets can only help achieving this final result.

So yeah, call me a fan-boy if I disagree with your narrow-minded, uninformed and unhelpful opinion. I work in software development (not games) and I haven't often seen providers do half of the effort DTG is doing.

Excuse me, but they are not finding glitches in my assets or having me clean them up. They've bloody well broken them!!

I'm outta here.

I am looking at all the comments. I agree with those who are in agreement that DTG is trying to improve their product and that they are owning the faults of this update. This is not in dispute.
The purpose and rational of the update is not the issue but it is the execution of the update that is the issue.
Should DTG have contacted all developers and advised them a few weeks in advance of what will change and have them review their products to make any needed changes? Would this update have been best to release this as a beta with a revert function so as to collect any negative reports (DTG has done this in the past)? Both of these options could have mitigated loss of play-ability and the resulting negative feedback. What about any older DLC that is now abandoned ware, who fixes these?
As far as to self correcting the files and manually applying patches, not all have this skill set, or only have various levels of this skill. A lot of members that have been here for a long time have skills “far beyond those of mortal men” (from the original Superman TV show) and forget that others do not. **!!2cents!!**

Mike, I would be very surprised if you had glitches in your locos.
But other providers may not have your expertise.

Oh no I think we have misplaced the nuclear codes............. !*roll-laugh*! !*roll-laugh*! . A week or two from now the Earth will still be turning and most of these issues will be in the rear view mirror.

The simplest and easiest thing to do if you are having issues since the update is to run from a backup or MOD for now till all is resolved. I am sure for those who don't have a copy of the original executables prior to the update there would be those of us who could share them. Making a offline MOD is simple, simply copy your current TS Classic folder to a new directory outside of Steam such as C:\TS_CLASSIC, copy all from your directory and replace the executables with the original. This folder will never update and will still run as was prior to the update. Just make new shortcuts to run and name them to whatever you want. I have years of MODS setup like this going all the way back to 2013 on backup drives.

Wise advice. Over time I have become hesitant of downloading any ‘major’ update. My hats off to those adventurous gamers who do, thereby finding bugs which skilled coders can fix.

Ran TSC for several hours yesterday and again this morning with no issues. I admit to not running Smokebox or SS stuff. Since both of them are sold through Steam one wonders why these were not vetted. I only have one question. Who are DTG beta testers and why on Earth did they not catch the problem with the QD loco information and the issues with these two third party providers? How about the view 4 issue? Surly anyone who runs TSC for more than a few minutes would have seen that. Are they only testing with vanilla installation? If so what is the purpose of continuing with TSC since one of the great lures is all of the addons both routes and rolling stock?

Inquiring minds want to know.

I agree. As much as I respect DTG for trying to breathe new life in this old game, they could have planned it better.
But then, that's a very frequent problem, even in serious software development.

Well Buzz, these are questions we all have asked and have been criticized in doing so. My observations were that this was indeed a poorly planned and executed rollout. There was minimal consultation, if any, with developers while this update was being produced. As to the beta testing question, if they are beta testing in house did the testers understand the fundamentals of coding for advanced locomotives, this is where they should defer to the developers to do the beta testing. The big question is why it was not released as a beta with a revert function. They could have received feedback but not broken the game. Could this have been rushed in order to impress the new owners? Maybe in DTG's hubris they hoisted themselves on their own petard. As a side note any of these png files within .ap folders will revert back with a file verify. The snow is slowly going away, and I need to start my Spring projects. We seem to have 2 seasons here in Alaska, Winter and the 4th of July. Note: have lost 20 pounds on my diet. Notch 8 and sand.
