Silent Alerter

Unread postby lorenzoj » Sun Aug 21, 2011 12:57 pm

I keep getting messed up on some of the scenarios in routes like Newcastle - York cause there seems to be no alarm on the alerter and with only 2.7 seconds to respond it is easy to miss it. I have sound just no alerter alarm. Are they supposed to be silent ?

I think you have to be in the cab to hear the sound. I think someone has at least tried to fix this, but I'm not sure if it was ever actually done.

I'll check but pretty sure I've been in cab at times and still not gotten it. If I recall correctly it also seemed to be more of a problem with certain locos too.

I know at least one of the German locos doesn't have a sound. A light on the dash comes on, can't remeber which one though.

Just went back and checked, Newcastle route, Long Hop scenario. Loud in the cab view. Nothing in ANY other view. Really sucks.I remember somewhere reading that the Brits gave you 2.7 seconds to respond but you had about twice that on the German and other locos. 2.7 is doable if you have an alarm sound to respond to. It's just not practical in the sim to stay in the cab view at times. I hope this gets addressed as sacrificing play-ability for realism is not going to make for a lot of happy players.

You MUST be in the cab to hear the AWS. Before RW2, there used to be a warning triangle that came on if you were out of the cab, so you could cancel the AWS. RW2, they took it away.

I think Lonewolfdon came up with a script to make the alerter sound audible out of cab. Send him a PM, I can't seem to locate his post on the subject.

All of the german Locos don´t have sound, that´s because here in Germany we have a totally different alerter system than it´s being showed in Railworks !*not-ok*!

Railworks and german Railroads= !*lho*!

The German locomotive that doesn't have sound has no actual alert at all (I looked for a light on the display, there was no light, the emergency brake simply engaged without warning). They also screwed up the alerters for the American locomotives, our freight locomotives have deadman's switches, not AWS. !**conf**!

Yes, the default geman locos haven´t a simulated alerter system in Railworks.
But some time ago, in Railsimulator, they had the UK "Telephone ring", and that was !*roll-laugh*! **!!bang!!** !DUH!

<OFF TOPIC MODE ON>
That made me concentrating on US and UK railways, because at that point, there was no turning back to MSTS for me... hehehe.
