[Fairbanks Morse H-16-44] having issues with missing geometry

Unread postby IvanTheRussianDood » Fri Mar 11, 2022 2:39 am

So progress on the H-16-44 had been stopped because I had to deal with midterm exams and projects. However, that is largely behind me right now and I am restarting progress on this "adventure" with the h-16-44. I am noticing one thing for the first time however, geometry is disappearing from the finer details of the model, especially on the horn. I am absolutely not sure how to proceed right now because of this and have been unable to find any information on this issue. If anyone has any experience with this issue I could really use some help right now.

I can give more details tomorrow when I get back.

If a face has an extremely small area allotted to it on the UV map, TS will generally refuse to load it for whatever reason. Because some of them are showing up fine, making the whole thing on the UV slightly larger should probably fix it. If it’s not that, try recalculating normals.

Matt's very likely right about the normals. Blender (2.83 and up) has a great tool for viewing the normals. (You may be aware of this.) In Blender the normals may look correct, but in the game they disappear . Applying Rotation & Scale may also solve some normal problems.

So it was the small size on the UV map which was an issue. For now I just separated all the small details which were failing to load into a separate child with its own texture in Blender and that solved the issue. When the 3d modelling is done through and through and the proper texturing begins I will come up with a more permanent solution. But yeah, thank you for lending a hand Matt and Mike it really did help a lot.
