3DTrains out of business?

Unread postby _o_OOOO_oo-Kanawha » Sun Apr 11, 2021 2:13 am

As reported on another board, the 3DTrains.com website is no longer online.

Since neither Tehachapi for TS2021 nor Sherman Hill for MSTS have been updated in over 2 years, both projects are to be considered abandoned?

Must have just happened since I was on it I think Friday and everything was still there. Hopefully it's just an oversite and it will be back up. It's unfortunate since nobody seems to know what happened to Marc or if he's well.

What was the last update? I haven't checked it in months because I saw no chatter about it on the forums. It was still on the update he came out with after his return from a year plus hiatus last I checked. I think it was v1.09.27.19. His last post on here was Sep 28, 2019.

I don't know really how to feel about it. I don't think it was a scam because he finished most of the route. Out of the $30 I paid, I'd guess it's worth about $23-$25 in it's current state. The combination of his year plus hiatus, no more updates, absence from online forums and now the website down clearly shows all doesn't seem well in his life lately. He's a pretty private guy, so who knows what it is. It could be health issues, depression, money issues, relationship problems, legal issues or any combination of them. The last year of COVID almost certainly didn't help things either. Until he clarifies, it's all speculation from our point of view.

Do I regret getting the route? Nope. It's the risk you take when you put money into a paid beta or a kickstarter campaign. It is especially risky when there is only one person developing it. I suppose if I wanted it completely done bad enough, I could go into the editor and do it myself. But I don't have the time or will to put effort into a route of a sim that I frankly don't play a lot anymore due to me working through my huge backlog of games and other life's distractions.

He's always been nice and helpful on the forums. I hope he is alright. *!sad!*

Maybe something just changed, but I am able to access the website, and reach the checkout page for Tehachapi Pass. Try refreshing the page.

The website is up again. And they still take your money in the shop.

But any updates on progress with Tehachapi or Sherman Hill would be most welcome.

How many forum members does it take to screw in a light bulb? One of you who obviously has too much time on your hands might just inquire on his site about his well being? **!!2cents!!**

One to install the bulb. One to talk about how the new bulb is screwed up. One to hold the ladder. One to discard the old bulb. One to throw the switch. One to pour the drinks. One to serve the nuts, and the rest to enjoy theshow and riff on the dialogue.

Sorry. I couldn't resist. !*roll-laugh*!
