So what's up with the Blueprint Editor?

Unread postby ForceGhost » Sat Jul 11, 2020 8:53 pm

Virtually a brand new, freshly downloaded installation from Steam. When I launch the Blueprint Editor...

... and it does not continue when I click the button. If I launch the Blueprint Editor from a backup from 2018, it runs fine, as long as I run it in the same folder that the backup is contained in. When I copy it over to the new installation and try to run it, then I get the above error message.

EDIT: Ok, now this is really weird. I had changed the name the version that did not work (68.2c) to "BlueprintEditor2-Broken" so I would know the difference between it and the backup version. I clicked on it, and it opened up and ran fine. Just for S&G, I removed the "-Broken" from it, and when I tried to run it again, it failed. Then I added "-Broken" back to it, and it runs again!

It sounds as if the newer file is corrupted. By renaming it (it now is hidden) it appears to use the original version by default..

I do ont think that is the case. The older BP2 was removed from the folder. I tinkered with it a little more, and it does not matter what you rename the BlueprintEditor2 file -- you can put a comma or a hyphen on the end and it starts working. The caveat though is that now the "Utilities" program cannot find the editor.

I finally got an older copy from 2016 working, but now i'm seeing "export tools not found". Might be time for a wipe and re-verify.

Jerry,
Steam lately has been having some sort of problem with connectivity to their servers and downloads being incomplete/corrupted. I've had it happen as well (not for TS, thankfully) where I've had to verify at least once on a couple different games.

There is an option to change servers. If you look on the Steam down site it will show problem areas.

This is not an issue with connectivity. I had to go all the way back to version 57.2 but I finally found a version of BlueprintEditor2 that works. I created a folder within Railworks and moved the entire 2016 installation over to it. Now I can use that Blueprint editor. The thing that has me scratching my head is WHY the brand new installation will not work. I'm using the EXACT same computer I was using two years ago -- the one that I spent thousands of hours creating Assets on. There is no reason this should not be working.

'Dovetail games' is really the only answer I can give you. It's why I've kept the same version of BPE2 you have, as well as other things like older versions logmate too.

It's all working fine here FYI. I have nothing to contribute to a answer.

Taking it further, now im getting a "Cannot export to target file because target file doesn't exist" or something similar. There are a couple of other things i'm going to try first, but a complete system wipe and reinstall is not off the table. I used to do that about every six months, but I havent done it since Windows 10 came out. There is no telling what gunk may be gumming up the works.

EDIT: Not the solution I wanted, but in the end a complete system wipe and reinstall was the only way to fix the problem.

Finally, some results! You would think after GE clunkers and bulk freight cars, houses would be easy. I am finding them to be ..... difficult.

That turned out really nice. Are you working in Blender now?

I am working in Blender, v2.78. I still have 3DCrafter, but I it is such a dog of a program I don't even open it unless I need a part off of an older asset.
