Currently working on the industries around CP-51 (Flemington Junction). This is the warehouse complex near CP-51:

That's right - its more that just a train peaking through a leafy tunnel of forest, its the grand scale of what your pursing.
1. How are you attacking the terrain? Town by town? Linearly?
(I believe you said you were working from the middle outward)
2. I'm stunned by the scope of your project. I have said it before and will keep repeating - "its stunning" AND you don't stop!
3. Put of 15 contiguous miles in Workshop and let us see this thing!

(Covered all three of your requests)

Thank you all for your kind comments.

Adam-- I'm tackling basically town by town, or in some cases Control Point to Control Point. (i.e. CP51-CP53 on the mainline in Flemington, NJ).
By the time I'm done I should have about...24 miles? (between MP 29 on Conrail and MP54 on the NS portion of the line).

But anyway...

I took some time away from scenery to work on some of the mainline (the current eastern end of my scenery)... and let me just say...I'm starting to dislike compound curves with a passion...I have two compound curves back to back with a straight section in between, I was able to line the two sections up in the middle (the straight away) but the ends are a pain... is there an easier way to do this? I'll get so close and be off literally a rail width...or half a rail width...so frustrating. !*hp*! Anyone have any ways this could be a bit simpler?

Compound Curves (Waldwick)
lay curve then straight and the end curve with out doing the easement.
Record the radius of curvature on both sides.

Looks like this: (Right before applying Super Elevation)
Normal (existing) Straight ….Straight Eased..... Eased Curve... Eased Straight..... Eased Curve …..Eased Straight.... Normal Straight
* all the track must be eased - including the straight in the middle - work in a line as described above -

You need to have an idea what the radius is before you start as you will be repeating the process with the eased track several times before getting in right. You might as well lay the Normal Straight track out ahead of time at the end of your compound curve and use that for a target. (how many times have a found a very teeny tiny angle I was off by that caused my straight track to be out of line, because I was guesstimating at the end of the 2nd curve - many times!)

You know all this stuff already - its a pain!

What I generally do with tight curves is place a 10 metre section of track that is set to a 750 metre radius, then another one that is at 500, then 300, 250, 200, 150, 140.

But this is assuming that I need to go the extremity of using such tight curves. When I get to the end of the curve, I reverse the pieces. I did actually use a 1500 metre radius, but then I thought I was wasting time for some reason. Such pieces can be added again if necessary.

I honestly never use the easement tool.

And I just thought of using this with embankments included. Obviously a built in embankment loft as part of the track doesn't seem to be possible. It would look ridiculous to have one side of the track positioned higher than the other. What do folks usually do in this situation?

Hey all,

So I'm working on some stuff and there is a section of the route that always seems to be dark all the time. Like there's something blocking the sun. I have a screenshot below.

Any idea what could be blocking it?

I think you showed this image before, I have seen this before and had one. Lets go with corrupt terrain tile. That box should conform to shape of a 1km grid box.
Try clearing the game cache, delete temps, and check if your backups are good. You may need to restore that from backup.

It's only when I have Dynamic Lighting and shadows enabled, if it's off the box is gone.

What's it look like at ground level as you move through it? That other thread where they are talking about old RSDL files causing shadows and moving black walls are from some vehicles that may be moving or stationary might just be it. Let's try to see what it is for sure and then we can fix it hopefully.

Thank you Buzz! Found the problem, it was a series of container lines I placed. Removed them and re-added them and the box of darkness is gone. Thanks for the info! :D

Hey all,

Just wondering...would anyone kow of any good stand in's for the Newark bay bridge? I'm trying my hardest to do one by myself but it's becoming more of a pain. I was wondering if anyone knew of any assets on other routes as a good stand in.

Technically the bridge is a "floating through truss arch bridge" the deck "floats" from a suspension under the arch.

Here's a picture of it:

Hey all,

Quick text update... let's just say I bit the bullet and extended my route even further (only by a few miles). Extending the route to Browns Yard in Old Bridge, NJ. Gives a lot of the locals some place to go since Browns is the transfre point for some Oak Island runs.

Looks so realistic. Beautiful! I don't have that touch when it comes to decorating.
