Valan Branch Route phase II

Unread postby thecanadianrail » Sat Jun 11, 2011 7:08 pm

well i got board and decided to start ANOTHER progect *!rolleyes!* ..........this time it is a prarrie route! i have started on a small (around 20-30 miles when finished) prarrie branchline with a fair ammount of traffic. the route will primairly carry grain, but the branch has many small induistrys along the way too! Induistrys like a small cement plant, furniture factory, lumber related induistrys......ect! the route will have 2 or 3 small to medium sized yards basically for sorting freight from or for local induistrys. This time i have decided to start in the center of the route in a small town, this is the one with the cement plant, and also every town has an elevator that is either acticve or abandoned. oh btw this route is a modern route. there is another large induistry along the branch that gives the line so much traffic but i will not tell you what that is quite yet....you will hafto figure it out on your own from the screenshots! the trackage is a single line but with 1-2 mile long passing sidings for the ************ trains to pass the locals and grain trains. now how about the first screenshots of the route?

Fantastic shots, Card!! !*brav*! Thanks for sharing. Really liking the open/flowered fields. Throw in some horses and a few hay bales, and you'll have the look of most of the towns that I have seen here, in North Eastern California.

Great work! !*cheers*!

flowered fields? oh you mean the yellow ones? that is actually supposto be canola (what the people across the pond call rape). unfourtunatly there is no actuall canola objects to place in the field, and the wheat is too high in polly and looks unrealistic......the corn on the otherhand i will hafto see, hopefully it won't kill the fps on the route. at the moment i have around 300-400 pollys per tile with this kinda detail, i assume the corn will push it up to 600 or so. if it dosen't kill the framerate i will put it in. i have bales somewhere but i am trying to keep the types of assets as low as possible because i really want to release this one. right now i have the allaboard assets, default, Gtrax, GreatNorthrener, 3DTrains, and SMM. if i can find which file the bale in it i will put it in, just that my asset list has got at least 50 things on it, and each of those usualy has 1-3 things in it!

some more info on the route. the line cannot handle anything taller than a Hycube boxcar due to low bridges, but there is the odd piggyback car and single stack container cars that go through the odd time. but autoracks are out of the question. the line is owned by CN (obviously) but other lines run on the branch aswell. along with CN you can see the odd CP train, BNSF train, and even the RARE NS train. the line is fictional but it takes place near the Canada/US border which is why you see so much traffic. some of the larger induistrys on the line have their own switching loco, induistrys like the large grain elevator and the mistery induistry which i talked about in the first post. the line is a high speed branch line with speeds at a maximum of 60/40 (the default for the Scale rail), yards and induistrys have a speed of 15mph and bad rail is unregulated for speed so use caution. there is a branch on the branch that goes to a small town to service the elevators but the trackage is really bad for most of the line so be cautios when going down the line as you can't see the rails in some spots due to the high vegitation in areas. more to come later when i think of other things to add. !!*ok*!!

Have you looked at the SAD package? The foliage in there is amazing.

well i just found out what the recomended speeds of the second branch are. 6 axle locos are not recomended but are allowed, 4 axle locos are preffered. 6 axle locos have a maximum of 30mph before everything goes out of wack and it derails, 2 axle locos have a maximum of 40mph before the same thing happens. wow it is going to be a rough line when finished!

about the sad package: i will add this to the route also, lots of good stuff in there for shure!

ok, now i am shure that i will be able to distribute this route without giving up! !*salute*!

but i have a list for you repainters for things that i would like to have so the route can look proper. (all other requests of MINE should be put on hold for these)

1. those 40 and 50ft CN boxcars that are currently a WIP
2. clean and weathered GATX tanker cars (preferably not photoshoped)
3. Cargill Tanker car: http://www.wig-wag-trains.com/Atlas%20P ... 0_CRGX.jpg
4. the Greatnorthrener Grain elevator repainted into UGG (united grain growers), National, pool, and Co-op

and does anybody remember where the link was to the Procor tank cars?

contrary to what i said earlyer, the max speed is 30mph for ALL trains going down the line. (found that out the hard way lol)
it's kinda cool when i go around 23mph, the locomotive and freightcars start rocking side to side which makes it look realistic!

i have made some progress, but it is slow. I am about 1/4 way done the secondary branch line with the bad trackage, but I am running out of ideas for scenery. might add a small town about 1/2 way down the line to break up the scenery. !*don-know!*

I will release BETA 0.1 once the secondary branch is completed, BETA 0.2 will be released when I go to the next town on the mainline/main branch. BETA 0.3 will be released when i get to one of the main yards on the end of the line. BETA 0.4 will be the same as beta 0.2 but in the other direction, and 0.5 will be further up the line. at this point, or somewhere near it the land will get rolling hills with valleys. and it keeps getting more like the foothills arount southern alberta and alot more like the area around Great Falls, Mt

I do have 1 question, can you put new ground textures into an existing route? I wish to add some of the default B-SB route textures to add some variaty.
