TSW Beta 9 first impressions?

Re: TSW Beta 9 first impressions?

No crashes so far, but according to Steam there are many getting those crashes.

I am experiencing fps from 12 to 39, with around 20-25 as an average of the activity I have experienced in the game.
TSW has set my system automatically to maxed graphics settings (Ultra, TAA).
Passing trains drain fps a lot.
I have not tried the Graphics at High or the AA to FXAA to see the effect it has in the fps.

I can´t get the automatic brakes keystrokes to work (anyone else with this issue?). The dynamics keystrokes work fine however.
I don´t know either how to know what is the road speed I am in (without reading the track speed signs)....If anyone knows?

My mouse control sometimes get partially stuck or will freeze in some direction not allowing to go in some direction.
Also partial problems sometimes related with using the mouse in another App (like the Steam chatting screen).

Color and scenery shapes rendering are outstanding. A promising game indeed.

The loco detail seems a work done by DTM, but I can´t tell.

I have a lot of screenshots in my Steam profile, many showing the actual fps at the shot site:

Yea, it doesn't run the best but boy you can't tell in my videos that its sometimes under 30fps.

I'm still waiting for it to appear in my Steam Library. Opened a support ticket, but nothing on that yet either.

When you have registered at forums.dovetailgames.com, open up your profile page.
Look for the Preferences in the left column, and click that entry.
inside Preferences there is a field lower on the page where you can put the code.

The TSW forum is up now, but no Quick User Guide or other docucuments yet. I suppose these explain the sligthly different key assignment and how to move around inside and outside the train, etc.

Probably takes some more time for guides etc. to appear.

Thanks for your reply. The last news at the trainsiumlator.com site is the promo code should be in the confirmation mail for the live game account, but it is not there. I will file a ticket.

Just discovered the quick start guid at the DTG support site. You need to log in there and select TSW beta as game. In the FAQ Welcome to TSW beta ... you find the guide.

A bit sloppy prepartions, where nothing is where they say it will be ...

From the TSW board (https://forums.dovetailgames.com/threads/known-issues.207/):
---------------------
List of Known Issues

Introduction

Welcome to the Train Sim World: CSX Heavy Haul Beta programme. As a Train Sim World Pioneer it is important that feedback is provided in the right way and taking into consideration issues that we are already aware of. Please review the list below before submitting a bug report or feedback which may conflict with our known issues. Any issues raised that we are already aware of will be removed.

About the Beta Software

The Train Sim World: CSX Heavy Haul Beta is provided on an as is basis. It is not complete and is therefore considered to be in-development software. There will be bugs and we’ll continue to keep you updated on known issues as we progress. It’s important that you report the problems you experience in good time so we can ensure they are addressed before we release the final product in February 2017.

Hardware Drivers

It is important that you install all the latest drivers for your hardware before you run the Train Sim World: CSX Heavy Haul Beta. This should include, but may not be limited to, Intel or AMD chipset drivers, nVidia or AMD Graphics Card drivers and any appropriate Soundcard drivers. You can find the latest drivers for your hardware on the respective provider’s website (e.g. http://www.nvidia.com, http://www.intel.com and http://www.amd.com). Please consult your hardware’s documentation for further guidance on driver software. All other software requirements such as DirectX and appropriate runtime libraries are automatically installed when you install the Beta on your system.

No head camera physics while seated in train (headbob, motion sensitivity, etc)
There is currently no physics camera while the player is seated in the locomotive, so it appears that the player view is welded to the movement of the cab. This will be rectified prior to the full release of Train Sim World: CSX Heavy Haul.

While in an external camera, sometimes the camera can get stuck in scenery or inside the train
We have implemented some handling to try and prevent the camera clipping through scenery but this code is still being improved. If you experience a problem, please let us know. Note that if your camera gets stuck, you can press CTRL+0 to reset its default starting position, which should allow you to continue to use it as normal.

Train will drive through and clip the camera for the player while in first person
Currently if you stand in front of a train and allow it to drive through you, you will simply clip through it. We are working to improve the behaviour for this.

No RailDriver support
We are passionate about bringing RailDriver Support to Train Sim World. However, we cannot guarantee when this feature will be added. Please watch our usual channels for more information when it is available.

No TrackIR support
We are passionate about bringing TrackIR Support to Train Sim World. However, we cannot guarantee when this feature will be added. Please watch our usual channels for more information when it is available.

No visibility of engineers/conductors in the TSW environment
Locomotives currently do not include physical representation of characters (engineers, conductors, etc), including a representation of your own character. We have a range of characters currently in development and these will be added in due course.

With Temporal Anti-Aliasing Enabled (TAA) - Ghosting of hard surfaces when in motion
This is a known side-effect of Screen Space Reflections that are exacerbated by Temporal Anti Aliasing. Disabling TAA can minimise these effects however some ghosting of surfaces will remain on opaque surfaces. We are currently investigating alternative solutions and will look to update once we are confident this situation has been corrected.

With FXAA Enabled - Scintillation / Fuzzy / Flickering
This is a known side-effect of FXAA.

Missing Debrief Summary Screen at End of Scenario
This will be added for the final release.

Trains are Noticeably Short
Currently, limitations on the way physics are optimised mean that full length trains have a direct impact on frame rate. In order to preserve the enjoyment for our TSW Pioneers, and ensure Train Sim World can function on a wider variety of computer specifications, we have opted to shorten trains while we continue to optimise the code. Trains will be longer in the full release of Train Sim World: CSX Heavy Haul. We would be interested in hearing your thoughts about appropriate consists as feedback on the forums.

Framerate Issues
We are constantly working through a process of reviewing the demands made by the software on both the graphics card and the CPU to achieve the best possible framerates. We will continue this for the final release but would appreciate your individual experiences for your hardware.

CPU Bound
There are a large number of physics calculations going on all the time and this, combined with a wide array of extra detail means that the game spends considerable time limited by CPU performance. Owning a machine that has a CPU with more raw GHz per core will greatly assist as the game does not make optimal use of multi-core CPUs as yet (though it is fundamentally multi-core). We will be expanding how the game utilises multiple cores and optimising how it uses those cores as an ongoing process to help improve frame rates across the board.

What does “level” mean on the top right?
In the final game you will earn XP for everything you do, this will then let you progress through various levels relative to your XP. We are also going to be investigating possible rewards for achieving certain levels as well as implementing XP and Level’s specifically for each route and each train that you use as well, similar to a kind of Affinity type system that many car games use.

No Means to Reset in-game Profiles
There is currently no way to reset profiles in-game. To do this, it is necessary to delete the appropriate folder from your hard disk. This feature will be added in due course.

Minimal functionality on the map view (Key 9)
The map view is an early implementation at the moment to provide an indication of the expected appearance. There is considerable work to be done in this area and we would appreciate your thoughts as feedback on the forums.

Rain sometimes doesn’t work on windows
We have observed that in some circumstances rain does not rest on windows. Any help you can provide in understanding the circumstances are most likely to reproduce this issue would be valuable feedback.

Rain sometimes can’t be wiped off windows
We have observed that in some circumstances rain cannot be wiped from windows. Any help you can provide in understanding what circumstances are more likely to reproduce this would be valuable feedback.

Rain does not obstruct the view sufficiently
It is known that the rain effect on windows does not sufficiently obstruct or distort the player’s view out of windows. Your feedback on this would be valuable to understand your perceptions.

Tunnel Lighting is incomplete
We have a number of tasks to change how tunnel lighting is implemented. We have a simplified implementation to prevent vehicles being brightly lit for the public beta and will be building in a more accurate representation as we continue development.

Trackwork is missing on the road ahead when driving
It is known that the trackwork randomly disappears or pops in instantly as you drive. We will address this prior to the release of the full product in February.

Railhead Shine is only visible in close quarters
It is known that the railhead does not reflect light at a reasonable distance from the player position. We will address this prior to release of the full product in February.

Support for international keyboards is lacking
We are looking at adding customisable keyboard and controller mappings and will look to provide suitable mappings for a range of international keyboards in due course.

Inconsistent folder for saving screenshots
You should find screenshots taken with the CTRL+F12 key either in :

%localappdata%\TS2Prototype\Saved\Screenshots\WindowsNoEditor

Or in

C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\TSW\WindowsNoEditor\TS2Prototype\Saved\Screenshots\WindowsNoEditor

If you capture a screenshot using Steam’s built-in functionality using F12, you will find this in the usual location for Steam screenshots.

Localisation is incomplete, there are some elements of text that are not yet localised
If you find any text that isn’t localised, please let us know and include a screenshot. We are aware of a few items that are not localised and would like your help to spot any that we’ve missed.

It is possible to pick up the fuel hose while in external camera mode, this is incorrect
A bug with the selection code means that you can pick up the fuel hose while flying around in a loco external camera. This is incorrect behaviour, and if you attempt to do it the results are unpredictable.

If you wait and let it go to night time, it won’t look correct, night time has not been tuned yet and that’s why it isn’t shown as a preset
We have opted to limit the times of day in the Beta as we have not optimised all aspects of how the world looks at all times of day and in all weather conditions.

Missing PCS Reset instructions from the manual
If the PCS trips during your journey (a light comes on and the brakes apply) you will need to follow these steps to reset it and allow you to continue:
Set the throttle to 0
Set the reverser to neutral
Set the auto brake to emergency
Wait 2 minutes
Set the independent brake to full
Set the auto brake to release
Allow the brakes to release, this will take some time
Once the brakes have fully released, release the independent brake and apply some power.
AMD Hardware
We have experienced occasional and difficult to reproduce instability issues with some AMD hardware. Anything you can tell us to help pin these issues down will be valuable feedback.

Refuelling Issue
If you allow the refuelling system to completely refill a locomotive to its 3200 gallon capacity, the system will not properly detect the completion of fuelling and you will be trapped in the bounded area of the fuel station. You can work around this issue by simply manually stopping the fuelling process at some point prior to the 3200 gallon limit. You will then be able to remove the fuel hose successfully and continue with what you’re doing.

Saving/Reloading your Session
The save and reload system has not yet been implemented in the Beta. This will be added prior to the release of the full version in February 2017.

Visibility of Trackside Signage
Currently trackside signage is non-reflective and is therefore difficult to read. This will be addressed prior to release of the full version in February 2017.

Weather, Seasons & Time of Day Controls do not function
This functionality is limited in the Beta as additional work is required to optimise lighting at the various times of day, seasons and weather.

Boom Camera missing
The familiar “Boom” camera from Train Simulator (Keys 2 and 3) has not yet been implemented. This will be added prior to the full release in February.

Capture Screenshot works using Ctrl + F12
This will be replaced to the current familiar control of Ctrl + S in the final release in February.

Current speed limits are missing from the HUD
The current speed limit will be added to the HUD prior to the release in the full release in February. The HUD should be considered as representative of basic functionality, additional features will be added in due course. We would be interested in hearing your thoughts on customisation and features of the HUD as feedback on the forums.

HUD Driving controls are missing
This is by design. However, we are interested in hearing your thoughts on this as feedback on our forums.

Refuelling Cable Hose has Strange Physics
This implementation was proof of concept and will be replaced with an alternative set of physics for the hose in the final build.

Got an answer. They now say I don't need a promo key, but I do not see a TSW forum (yet)

I was running the Service scenarios last night. Was getting 42 FPS, then I went through the Sandpatch tunnel and it went down to 14-16 FPS. At that it was still smooth, very strange. Under 20 fps the fps counter turns red.

I haven't been able to get past the Microsoft VC Redist screen. It just hangs there. I had this issue with Sony Movie Studio Platinum 13 and finally installed it manually. I also had to install a specific framework.net. It was quite a nuisance. If this one will interfere with Movie Studio in any way I'm not going any further with it. What do you guys think?

Best,

The CSX Cumberland Hump. Someone asked me about it, and apparently its zoned off for the beta. This was as close as I could get to it.
