Dads birthday???

Unread postby locomotive » Mon Aug 22, 2016 10:42 pm

Hello guys,

My farther has been interested in trains from the first days i can remember he was working on the railway for about 30 years working his way up in to a higher position it was his true passion, once he retired he started to build train sets in the spare room at the house i was brought up in, The room itself looks great hes got trains going all around the walls high and low a real set up!! He also has always licked his computers and computer games so for his birthday it sprung to mind i should get him a simulation game now that it is more realistic these days. So i have seen the 2016 train simulation game for sale online and i want everyone's opinions on here from the game play down to any bugs etc

I am sure that my farther will love it either way but i want to get him the best and by what i have been reading with the add ons and updates etc this game still has a lot more to come. I also have a steam account already and use it on a daily basis myself so i know how that all works

Image

Any information regarding this game would be greatly appreciated i am looking forward to chatting to everyone and finding out what this game is really about

Thanks *!!thnx!!*

Just a little to add for all the old school train drivers my farther found some old school game son here

First of all, *&!welcome!&* .

TS2016 is a great simulator overall, in terms of graphics. Physics and sounds are way off on most DLC, but mods in the download library here fix all of that.

Don't go buying the sim too soon though, there is a new TS in development.

!DUH! His birthday won't wait for that.

First off let me say that the game runs pretty smoothly nowadays. Yes there is a new version in development, however it will be along when it comes and this version isn't going away anytime soon. My only word of caution is if you want it to perform properly you must have a fairly robust computer with in my opinion at least 8 gigs of RAM and a pretty up to date video card with at least one gig memory preferably 2.
After that depending on your taste (or I should say your father's) there is a ton of stuff in the library here that is free stuff and a lot that depends on some purchased download. I would set him up with the basic game and then maybe gift him a Steam wallet if you want to spend more unless you know the kind of stuff he would like.

Train Simulator also requires a powerful processor to run smoothly. I recommend something that runs at 4.0 ghz.

I don't have anything that runs that fast and my game runs smoothly. My main machine is a 3.4 i5 and works fine.

Don't use the old intel pentium processor, it simply can't support TS. I know because that was what I used before I upgraded my computer.

You can log into your Steam account on his computer and let it install TS2016 for him to try and see how he likes it. While he may have a love from trains and model railroading, some folks just don't like the online simulator experience. Then if he likes it you can always get him his own Steam account and just buy it through Steam.

Just my own 2 cents as I did something similar with a combat flight simulator for my nephew. He tried it, liked it, and we got him his own copy.

There is also the possibility that he may like one of the other Train Simulators more than TS2016. Some folks prefer T:ANE over TS2016 because of the driver controls are more like those on a model railroad. I've also heard differences, likes and dislikes with some of the other simulators out there.

As it turns out my father has always had up to date computer's desktops and laptops so i assume that it is powerful enough but i will check to make sure first. As of knowing what he would like i have no clue i would have to let him play the game and see what he says then....

When does the new game get released?? i might just wait for that??

*!!thnx!!* !*cheers*!

There is no date announced for the new game. To the best of my knowledge not anytime soon. Sometimes our kids on here get a little excited and ahead of themselves.

Buzz is right. It won't be anytime soon because DTG would have said something by now.

Definitely make him try TS2016 now. I suggest starting with one or two inexpensive DLC routes with lots of content, such as the Horseshoe Curve. This is easy to install through Steam and it is self-contained (does not require buying more assets or hunting for free assets), so it is easy for a beginner.
You just start the game, do a few tutorials in the Academy for learning the controls, then choose a route a scenario and off you go.

Yeah go with TS2016, I'm sure he will like it. The new version is probably still a year away( to everyone who may have a comment about that, this isn't the thread).

I'm with chacal, if you decide to get the game, Horseshoe curve is a great one. it's set in the 50's or 60's and has an excellent classic railroading feel, I think he would like it.

Another suggestion for you is the soilder summit route. I'm not sure when he was a railroader but that one is set in the 80's so if he was a railroader then it would be fairly similar to what it was like for him.

I checked his computer last night and it is fine to run the TS 2016 so there is a bonus... Looks like i am going to get the TS 2106 with the newer version about a year away i think that's a bit long to be waiting, And you'r right game developers do seem to get ahead of them selves
*!!thnx!!*

If you make the purchase this week you can get Train Simulator: US First Class Edition for just $14.99. At that price you can't go wrong. If your father really likes it you could also offer to get him a route of his choice as a bonus since the price for the base game is so low. This edition comes with Sherman Hill, Miami - West Palm Beach and Soldier summit. You'll also get the Gas Turbine, U.P. SD60 and some assorted bonus rolling stock in addition to the engines and rolling stock that come with each route.

As others have mentioned, no one knows exactly when the Unreal version will be made available and it will be a separate purchase in any case if you decide to eventually go for it. Have a look at this link for the current sale;

http://train-simulator.com/shop/train-s ... s-edition/

Several times during the course of a year DTG will have sales that take up to 75 to 80% off some add-ons with many more at 50% off. I'm not sure when the next big sale will be, for sure around the year end holidays, but there is always the weekly sale on a handful of content such as the US First Class Edition mentioned above.

As a final FYI, DTG are set to reveal 'The Future of Train Simulator' on September 1st when they may announce a time frame for the release of the Unreal version and will probably announce what plans they have for the current version - They have said in the past that they will continue to support and release content for the current version concurrently along with the Unreal version (whenever that is released) so there is really no need to worry about the current version becoming obsolete anytime soon.
Download the PRB from page 51 of the Powder River Basin thread.
