Signals are pretty much standardized these days, so they pretty much look the same. There is some variation though. There are round three-light signals, like on the NS coal district. NS also uses a squatty target that is almost as wide as it is high. I've a lot of the CSX replacements with four lights instead of three.
As far as what system is used, that is still widely varied, though with PTC coming online, that may require some standardization.
