Just got them, mainly for the tank cars.
Models look OK from a distance. Nice matte finish.
Closer up there are a few quibbles:
With some subtle weathering the tanks can be made to "appear rounder", the tops are usually sun bleached, the bottom half darker. Not all lettering is sharp and readable.
Wheels appear to be slightly unround, and don't have shiny metallic flanges. Don't like the texturing of the threads either. A few more polygons wouldn't go amiss as the wheels are prominently visible. it also appears the wheels quite don't touch the railheads, or is it the shadow stencil?
Double shelf couplers OK, but the brake hoses are very tight and don't hook up to the "standard" brake hose Buckeye Type-E.
Know there are several different brake hose couplers available, stock Sherman Hill's also don't mate with standards, from Britkits?
Main feature are the large flexible hoses connecting the cars. They become uncoupled and vanish when the cars are uncoupled, the pipe end is capped, good.
I think the coupler pivot and strike points should be look into once more, as the couplers overlap when uncoupled.
There should be supports hangers protruding from the one end of the each car to support the hose.
On super elevated Tehachapi Pass curves, the hoses behave oddly, coming loose from the cars and not leaning into the curve it seems.
Real flexibility is impossible, but perhaps their animation should be looked into one more time? Originally, I thought having them as child object to the couplers would allow for better animation. Then perhaps child objects to a car don't lean into a super elevated curve?
No loaded cars provided. These are heavy cars in the prototype, loaded SP "Oil Cans" were amongst the heaviest trains to run over the Pass.
No EOTD.
Default QD consist unprototypical. SP ran their Tank Train cars in 12 and later 13 car sets. 5 or 6 sets to a train, 6 to 8 SD45's were needed for power.
Will try to hook up a 12 car set: A,C,C,C,C,C,C,C,C,C,C,B
All in all, nothing that cannot be left unaddressed in a service pack.
3 1/2 out of 5 for the cars.
Haven't looked into the locos yet. Will apply Ian's 2nd fix first to get all the sound working.
Generally, with the .ap pack now established, I think it is bad practise to refer to any asset outside your own provider folder. I don't like to see any reference to a Kuju folder.
How do I set a provider for the sounds in a QD scenario?
