A new RW Tools componant or plugin

Unread postby QcRail » Fri Dec 18, 2015 9:23 am

Hi Mike,

Thanks for your railroad swiss-knife software; don't know how I would navigate in the obscure files of TS20xx.

A thought has been with me for a while : could it be possible to have an option that would parse a specific or all route folders to produce a list of rolling stock (engine and/or passenger, freight) by road name? Thus someone looking for anything concerning "Canadian National" rolling stock would have a list from either the Assets or Route folder?

If I'm right most rolling stock has a "name" ID within its bin file... just a thought !*don-know!*

... I like dreaming, QcRail !!*ok*!!

Yes, every .bin file has a 'Name' entry. The problem lies in the sheer number of files which would need to be checked, there are something like 500,000 files in my rather large TS2016 installation. On top of which authors are apt to use strange names, like 'Canadian National' or 'CNR' or 'CN' or whatever takes their fancy. So I don't think this is going to happen.

At the moment there is a Search facility in the 'Edit Assets' screen and if you have set up an 'Index' file of all the rolling stock, then it should have been possible to search for particular names in files. Unfortunately when I tried to test this today, the option appears to be broken (It used to work OK), so I will try fixing that asap.
