Roller Waves or Ocean waves

Unread postby Johansteam » Sat Jul 25, 2015 7:36 am

Hey Guys,
Are there anybody that could help me or point me in the right direction?
I'm seriously trying to make Animated waves ..... those along a Coast which fades when reaching a Beach. Could someone please tell me how it is done?
Kindest Regards,

Have you checked the Pacific Surfliner US route, or the UK Riviera Line route? These both have simulated waves. A script probably moves the shape files in rhythmical fashion about. I suppose this is the best the game is capable of. Realistic waves and breakers are extremely complicated to model physically correct. What we see of a wave at the surface are undulations caused by orbital movement of water particles. a breaker forms when the "bottom part" of the orbital movement "runs aground" on the rising beach slope. Waves breaking against cliffs are probably impossible to model in real time.

I've seen video of Riviera Line trains covered with water when a storm hits the coast and the waves run right up to the sea wall besides the tracks.
Better keep the windows closed and hope the DMU doesn't break down.

Look here for evidence of the damage a major storm causes: http://www.dawlishtrains.com/dawlish-sea-wall-damage.html

Hi oo_Kanawha,
Wow, the power of water are really incredible.....looking at the pictures in the link you gave. Coming to the wave questions:
It is more or less those waves already done in Railworks, that I am after. Can anyone please explain to me how it is done?
I am not sure if a script are used for the animation, however I could be wrong. The reason why I'm saying this, is the fact that when I'm using the waves of the "Isle of White route" ( in a test route I've done ), it works. I have no script attached to this test route?
Someone or more than one person does know how it were done......Please help
Thanks,
Johan

Isle of Wright you mean? So you have found the actual asset that produces the waves?

If you've found the assets and got them to work in your testing route, you could try experimenting with the values in the editor fly-out box on the right of your screen.

Ooops, you're correct. Isle of Wright !
Thanks for the eye opener to check the editor fly-out box. Never done it, never knew it existed......it only goes to prove that you are never too old to learn. Thanks, oo_Kanawha, for pointing towards it.
I will let you know how I've done.
Kindest Regards,

Hi oo_Kanawha,
I went into the World editor and located the IoW Coastal waves, however could find the "fly-out box" you are talking about? The only fly-out box on the right is the box containing the names of the Authors? See the attached picture.

You do not have the required permissions to view the files attached to this post.

I found the file, opened it in RW_Tools and learned that there are no variables or parameters to set. That means there will be no fly out box.
So the asset is fixed in its behaviour. You can perhaps resize it using the placement gizmo, but that is about it.
