Another Mountain Route!

Unread postby thecanadianrail » Thu Feb 17, 2011 9:44 am

i have just started a modern route to do since after the release of the sherman logging company V1 will be on hold untill the big update (whenever that is). the route has 2 railroads that shair the mainline through the mountains CN and BNSF. the part i am working on starts out in a large town and each railway has a large yard. i will post some screenshots at noon (my time at noon) to give you an idea of how much this route is similar to the real thing even though it is all fake (not using redem or anything like that) the route still has no true name. i just named the route the name of the 2 main towns for now. i will give more info later.

I would say right side. But, what performance hit does it make with all those objects? I guess if they're low poly, it won't be too bad.

the preformence is not hit to hard at all, other than those trees there are the tracks, signals and a bridge or two and i hit my average FPS going through there with a long train, ~20fps for long trains and ~30 for short ones. but what supprizes me the most is how many trees there are, i think i added 300 trees per section of copy and paste method, so what you see in that one shot on the hill is around 1200 trees, so around 1200 more assets put in. it is alot lower than in the city area of the route to! the true bonus is how realistic it looks compaired to the old trees on the left side, i shall keep these trees and replace ALL of the old ones on this route. i really want that block asset thing now.....trees trees trees in my sleep! i cant get them out! HELP MEEEEEEeeeeeee!!!!............

I REALLY like the work in the right side pic! With some touches here and there, that could be very realistic. Not the left side; that looks like a "plastic" landscape. Like the trees in mine do. I can't do much with the hardwood varieties available and the pines don't suit my route/environment. So I wait.

Nice work!

ummm, i nearly had a heart attack when i looked at my asset count right after doing some of the left side.......OVER 6000 assets! oddly enough it runs quite smothly through there, probably because most of those assets are those low polly trees. i think i will run with my view distance at medium and see how it goes from there.
