Modify Locomotive to Run

Unread postby DonR » Mon Dec 16, 2013 8:09 am

Hi,

In the Geep Trail scenario (Castle Rock), there is an error at Larkspur where you are supposed to add motive power and pickup more freight cars. The engines you are to pick up are not powered, so the lone GP9 is woefully inadequate in terms of power.

How can I edit the scenario with RW Tools to make those locos powered when I pick them up?

Thanks
Don

Hi, Don. I just took a look at the GEEP Trail scenario in both RW_Tools and the TS2014 scenario editor. Looking at the F7A and B units in the scenario editor, they're set to be dead engines with 0% fuel. I ran this a long time ago and got a green completion check, but it was a while ago so I don't remember much about it. I used the scenario editor to remove the dead-engine check mark and set the fuel slider to 100%. Then I re-ran the scenario and it works just fine. When you couple to the consist at Larkspur the A-B combo doesn't appear to "come alive", but you get the extra motive power to climb the rest of the way to the summit before Monument. I was able to accelerate up the 1.5% grade all the way.
If you know how to use the scenario editor it takes about 5 minutes to effect the change. I can guide you through it if you'd like.
I also opened the scenario up in RW_Tools, but I didn't even see the pickup consist listed, so I'm not sure how it would be done there. That left me really confused.
Hope this helps!
Best, !*cheers*!

I don't have that scenario, so can't check it here. But if the locos are unpowered, they may appear in the scenario.bin file as wagons rather than locomotives, hence would not appear in the diesel set of RW_Tools.

Weird. When I try to edit the scenario in the TS14 Scenario Editor the "Edit Scenario" button is grayed out.

In RW Tools, I swapped the F7A&B out with GP9s. No change to their status. I wonder if separating them from the rest of the cars in the cut would make a difference.

Where in RW Tools do you set things like the fuel level for the locomotives?

Thanks

Shouldn't they show up as "Loose Consist" in the Edit Scenarios menu selection? I clicked on every one and they don't show up. I have version 5.0.36. Maybe I'm doing something wrong, but I thought I knew RW_Tools relatively well for that function. Perhaps I have more to learn... !*don-know!*

The route is initially locked. You need to run a scenario (any one), then press <esc> to get to the menu, press World Editor, then there is a small lock symbol in the bottom right. It will show locked. Click it to unlock, then press the run button (the orange arrow...). It will prompt you to save the route. Do so, then go back into the Build section and you will be able to edit the scenario.
In the scenario, double-click on the locomotive and you will see a flyout on the upper right. Open that and you'll see the fuel slider, then the "Dead Engine" check box. The symbol is an engine outline with a big honkin' red X through it. Uncheck the green check mark. You may have to uncheck before TS will allow you to set fuel. I don't know for sure.
Let me know if you can do this.
Hope this helps!

Thanks for the tips. I've edited the scenario. I'll give it a run later.

The consist with the F7s is the Loose Consist at the bottom of the list in RW Tools.

Thanks

Thanks. Don. I "thought" I looked at that loose consist when I opened up RW_Tools. I looked at it again this morning and I see that it's there as you say. I obviously overlooked it in my haste. *!embar*!
I don't think you can change the fuel and dead status from RW_Tools, you need to do it through the scenario editor.
Glad you were able to make the change! Let me know how you think it runs after you have a chance to run it.
Best, !*cheers*!

LOL, all this time I thought the deal was the engines were supposed to be dead, and your job was to get them up that hill and to the next stop. Quite a struggle as I recall. But, like Marc said, been a while since I ran this. !*don-know!*

Well, that certainly was a challenge, IIRC, because I think I was going about 4 or 5 MPH all the way up the grade. I must have run it VERY early in my TS/RW "career", probably even before I got into the editors. **!!bang!!**

Ennyhoo, it's good to get more folks into modifying stuff so maybe there'll be more content available! !!*ok*!!

Well, now the passenger train doesn't wait for me to get to Larkspur and we have a headon a couple miles down the track... *!rolleyes!*

Back to the drawing board.
