Hi say I am working on my Amtrak California Route I am using Google earth to help me out with. Along as I work but my question is gonna try the best I can to ask here. Okay here it goes I followed the tracks from Sacramento my Route goes form Bakersfield to San Jose.So I followed the tracks in Google Earth from Sacramento heading to Bakersfield, Then the tracks very off to the right left from Sacramento so witch way do I follow the tracks from Sacramento to Bakersfield Amtrak Station?

Why not wait for the TS2014 update and you will be able to automatically overlay Google Earth data on your route?

Does this new feature alleviate RSC from producing new products by letting the community do their work while they take all of the credit and the majority of the profit?

Only if you distribute it via RSC I would think. The overlay is in the new editor so it can be used with any route you want to create. In essence it replaced RWDecal.

I am not debating that the new tool will be a boon to route makers. My question was is RSC letting the community do all of its work for them. To me it makes perfect business sense. What is the cost of a server compared to the cost of hiring employees paying them wages and benefits when you can someone else to do the work for free.

I'm not clear on what you're getting at. Other than good PR and giving us a helpful feature, what work would the community be doing that RSC would benefit from?

You do realize that the routes submitted via the workshop are free right? You don't submit your route to RSC and they take all the profit. I think you're confusing it with the Partner Program where individual deals are struck between the creator and RSC in a "you build, I distribute, we share profits to mutual benefaction" venture.

To answer the OP just start from the Bakersfield station and work your way back to your current position. You can just plant trees as a bread crumb trail if you don't want to place track in the opposite direction.

The trick here is to create a Workshop route that absolutely nobody is interested in (like I am). Problem solved!

Well,I am thrilled about the GE image overlay. RW Decal is a great tool,but this sounds like a straight forward two key process. I do wonder if it will allow you to use the slider for historical imagery.

I hope you don't mind some constructive criticism, Bako to Sacramento would be a huge undertaking. Do you know how many miles that is? That's a four hour drive by car. Maybe you could start with something smaller like Sacramento to San Jose or Bakersfield to Fresno. One of the reasons you may be confused with your track's is knowing which railroad you're building. Both Union Pacific and BNSF run almost side by side up and down the San Joaquin valley. In many town's along the route Both railroad's are only a few block's from each other. The other thing to think about in deciding which line to build is what type of operations do you want to have. BNSF does mostly intermodal trains in the valley. They also have to share the line with Amtrak, Union Pacific mostly does mixed freight in the valley, they have a lot of heavy switching along their route.
