Just Released: Freight Cars Sound Update

Unread postby GreatNortherner » Wed Jul 31, 2013 10:37 am

Hi,

UPDATE:
After a long delay, the sounds update has just been released. Update packs for most of my add-ons are now available on my website.
Please visit this link: http://golden-age-rails.com/packsrw/audioupd.html

Updates for the remaining packs (RW3 legacy, freeware models with Kuju sounds, Allegheny product folder) will follow in the near future.

Please let me know if anything doesn't work, this is the first time in quite a while that I'm doing an update to my models that doesn't come in the form of a completely new package.

UPDATE 2:
The freeware 40ft Boxcars Kit Packs, 65ft Mill Gondola Kit Pack, Skeleton Log Car, and Pickle Car have now also been updated.
Most other packs still make use of the Kuju sounds, so updating them will need a bit more work.

I've been working on a sound update for my freight cars over the past few weeks, adding more and better sounds (coupling, brake squeal, brake line release, crisper and louder track joints, better balance of all sounds)

A preview from the testing phase:

Hopefully I'll be able to upload this soon.

Michael

Sweet. I like the coupling sound with the air hiss.
What about slack sounds?

Just where do you find the time. Between sound updates, rolling stock, 2 wonderful looking routes under way I am amazed.

I just see something I like for RW and buy it (the New Haven route **!!bow!!** for example) in the hope I will find time to at least explore it sometime before Xmas *!sad!*

Looking forward to this release too...

!*cheers*!

Nice one! Sounds a whole lot more like the "Golden Era" antiques I used to work with four decades ago, especially the air hoses charging up when the cars couple. I'm reminded of the guy who broke me in on train service talking into my right ear as I was learning the drill, "Be careful you don't get the palm of your hand caught when making up [connecting] the train line ..."

Thanks for your kind comments! I'm in the process of integrating the new sounds to all the cars/packs now. Hopefully I can get it done some time early next week.

Sounds good Micheal. Make sure that we'll hear every single axels cause krellets sound is not keeping up. Not to be negative about it. I just want the realistic as can be. !!*ok*!!

Still Krellet sound is still good!

Michael

I have Krellnut's Wagon Sounds pak installed on all my rolling stock - I even figured out how to add his sounds to all the freight cars I have purchased from your inventory.

Sounds really add to the immersion of the sim. I am excited that you are throwing your hat in the ring with your authentic sounds set. I look forward to trying them out. Will your sounds be compatible with Krellnut's or will I have to choose between yours and his?

Hi,

Thanks for your kind comments.

Will your sounds be compatible with Krellnut's or will I have to choose between yours and his?

My sound packs will only be installed to my own cars, so any sound mods you have added to other cars will stay in place. If you have added other sounds to my cars you should back them up because the sound update will overwrite them and you would have to rebuild your old sound mod if you don't like my new sounds.

Make sure that we'll hear every single axels cause krellets sound is not keeping up.

I've added a "rail joint" sound, but it still sounds artificial and not like the metallic clickety-clack I'm used to hearing on jointed rails in the real world. At times it also seems to run "out of synch" with the joints on the route, I guess that happens when the sound files are longer than the distance between rail joints. That's probably a limitation we have to live with.

Did the RWA rolling stock get this update? And/or will installing this update, update the RWA rolling stock?

Read it before, read it again, still have the same question.

If you are saying that the absence of RWA rolling stock being mentioned should be taken as proof posivtive that they have not been updated, I'm afraid that absence of evidence is not evidence of absence and I am not sanguine about assumptions (insert saying about "assume" here).

Hi,

I assume you are referring to the original RWA freight equipment pack (NW2 + freight cars) that Dick and I released in 2010 or '11? I just checked the files and they are still using the Kuju sounds. I also noticed that I seem to have lost the copy of the Source folder during one of my HD 'cleanups'. **!!bang!!**

Anyway, with the cars being aliased to the Kuju folder they should automatically pick up Krellnut's sounds if those are installed for the Cajon Pass / USL&AP DLCs.

The new RWA add-on, the Lakeside route, has all custom sounds by the way and doesn't use anything from other asset packs like Kuju.

Cheers
