I would vote for the historical era as well. Maybe some steam? !*salute*! If that's what the route used. I love steam (no, not Steam, the website, necessarily)

It's currently operating as The Mt. Hood Railway Co., and there is a Wiki page. Apparently, the abandoned roadbeds I found were old logging lines from the Parkdale mill up into the foothills rather than part of the Mt. Hood. The road was built in 1906 to Dee, OR then extended to Parkdale, OR in 1909... Positivly steam era. Owned for a while by the UP, it has a lot of possibilities. It has a switchback on the canyon wall 2 1/2 miles up the gorge after a 2.4% climb, then goes back on up the hill on a 2.1% grade. Lots Left to do!

That looks nice. I would love to see in the steam era. A good narrow gauge route with some Shay's etc. would be great.

Ok, build me a nice little 90 ton 2 truck narrow gauger and some disconnects, and we'll do it! The Dee sawmill had rails up into the woods as well.

For more than one reason, circa 1938 seems to be the period that would work best, the Columbia gorge highway would be done, the road to Odell and on to Parkdale would be finished. I'd need to obliterate the signs of I-84 and the newer highways, but it would be doable. There are a lot of buildings that will work, commercial and residential.

Locos would be by nature smaller, a 2-6-2 prairie, or the 2-8-0 consolidation from RW would work... we short line builders need some of the lighter steam engines to be modeled.

Woot! found a picture of #1

Keep on brainstorming here, and take a look at the WIP photo (more to come) in another thread from the modern era route.

BTW, not that it matters, but my 65th birthday is in December. *!greengrin!*
