Discussion about RailWorks route design.

Something weird happened...

Unread postby dtrainBNSF1 » Mon Feb 23, 2015 12:32 pm

I have an off-and-on project building the KCS line by my house in Murrayville. I just got back to it applying scalerail and everything seemed okay until I logged on to TS2015 to start work just the next morning. Here's what I was greeted with...
Invisible track and a world of white.
Anybody got a guess as to what happened?

I am guessing something happened to your route template file. Were you using one from another route that might be in an .AP file now? Like Cajon Pass or another default route?

I was using the Stevens Pass template and yes it's in an ap-file. Would I have to unzip it then?

That would be the best place to start to see if it corrects your problem.

Are you sure it isn't a blizzard?
The game engine can see .ap files. I'm using those with no problems and they aren't unzipped.
Besides, he could see them before why would the ground textures etc just suddenly vanish?
Try deleting the BluePrint.pak for that route and let it rebuild the blueprints.

No clue why Eric, we are trying to help him troubleshoot.

This may be a long shot but I have sometimes noticed that the checked assets in the route editor that are being used could no longer be checked. Also, If they are still checked remove checks save then restart and re-check. I have had this happen during ScaleRail conversions I've done.

First off thanks to everyone for your comments.

Eric - I for some reason did not see a Blueprint.pak file for this route. I'll check again, but I didn't see one anywhere last night.

John S - I will try your suggestion.

Something else weird happened last night. I discovered that if I log into the route immediately after starting TS 2015 I get the "world of white", but if I log into it after playing on a different route my new route will appear with the other routes textures.

Here's 3 pics to illustrate what is happening. Notice that the track is still invisible:

I've seen this problem before, here in the forums.
Can't remember anything more specific, but I know it was discussed.
Try to find it using the search tool.

What should I search under?

Looks like the Blueprints from other routes that you load have some of the same Assets so when the Blueprints.pak file is created your route doesn't need to search for those assets again. Essentially, your custom route is not locating all of its Assets correctly at the time of loading to create its own Blueprints.pak. I would try my above suggestion and go from there. To me it seems the route has lost its Assets.

Could the RouteProperties.xml have gotten corrupted or deleted?
I think that's what it's called. I'm not at home to check.

I did try your suggestion the other night. I ended up with the same result as above.

Eric - I did see a RouteProperties.xml. Whether or not it's corrupted I have no idea. Could I delete it, open the .bin file with serz.exe and would that fix it? Or would a corrupt xml file suggest that the bin file is also corrupted?

I think I'd try to rename the original file first to protect it, then use a backup copy of the RouteProperties.xml and see what happens.
