G-Trax Southern Pacific GS-4 physics upgrade by David Whiting (dtrainBNSF1)

Southern Pacific GS-4 mod.zip - 100 kb

This is a total physics upgrade for G-Trax's Southern Pacific GS-4

Description

Here is the long-awaited modification for G-Trax's Southern Pacific's GS-4.  The mod applies to all variants of the model - American Freedom Train, BNSF Employee Appreciation, Daylight, and War Baby.

The mod updates the weight of the locomotives and tenders, fuel amounts are now displayed in Imperial figures, and updates the power and speed curves.  The boiler has been refined to promote steam production.

Each loco can now achieve 110mph at full throttle and 10% cutoff with dampers open and blower closed.  Ideal firemass is 1000lbs. or 76% for the F4 HUD.

A new feature of this loco is the inclusion of a booster.  GS-4s were one of the few locomotives in the US that were equipped with boosters as many railroads felt that the expense of maintaining boosters did not justify their use.  Boosters gave the loco an extra "-umph" when starting the train and when climbing hills.  It was typical for the booster to be cut out when the loco reached a speed around 15-20mph.  The blueprints have been redesigned to reflect the usage of the booster.  Starting tractive effort is 78,650lbf until the loco reaches 20mph, then drops to 64,800lbf.  From there tractive effort drops off lineraly until the loco reaches 110mph.

As a result, the loco is now much faster and much more powerful at speed.
