Passenger cars refuse to couple to each other

Unread postby NKP1 » Sun Feb 24, 2013 1:51 pm

Apparently I'm not alone on this. !*hp*! Having a problem with TS2013 and getting any of the passenger cars to couple to each other. It does not matter if it's RSC, IHH or Kuju assets. Thought we had a fix a while back with a coupler height adjustment in the .bin file but for some odd reason that is simply not working anymore. Anyone got a good fix?

Have you tried the coupler view in the hud?
you can click on individual couplers to couple/uncouple them.

That does not help. Check this out yourself. Take a couple of individual ACF chair cars over to the UK test track or your favorite siding. Set them down separated. Try to couple them together. Also can not get the GP-9 to couple to a passenger car either. The SD-40's work fine though.

Do you have the Kuju US assets checked? The UK test track does not have this enabled by default.

Yes checked. RSC checked. Challenger01 checked. IHH checked. Makes no difference. Tried them all checked/unchecked. Still no two ACF passenger cars want to get coupled together.
I am on a 64bit Windows 7 computer. I'm not sure if that is a problem.

These are the results of my various consist configurations on the Test Trak Route,

Two consists as follow:

B&O SD40 IHH UP Baggage Car... Kuju UP Chair Car.. IHH UP Dome Car No problems coupling or uncoupling... Worked perfectly

B&O SD40 RSC ChallPak01 UP Baggage Car... RSC ChallPal01 UP Chair Car RSC ChallPak01 Dome Car... You can place any of these cars in a scenario however; in game play you cannot couple or uncouple the dome or baggage cars either to themselves or to the Chair Car. You can couple/uncouple any of the cars to the locomotive

Given that the Dome and Baggage Cars were/are IHH creations and the Chair Car a KUJU creation makes me a little suspicious of some incompatibility.. but then how does one explain the lack of problems with the IHH/Kuju consist??

Please see the attached screenshot of the RSC ChallengerPack01 Chair Car and Dome car.

I can now get the Kuju ACF UPRR chair car to nicely couple and uncouple to another ACF chair car. I fixed that by deleting the Chair_Car.bin file and then running game cache validation. This put a fresh .bin file in the folder. Then clear cache before running again. Unfortunately that does not work for the C&O chair car re-paint nor does it work for the dome or baggage cars which are not Kuju or RSC assets. And therefore cannot be refreshed automatically via the internet.

I'm thinking I'm losing my mind on this one. I changed the bin file out for one of the cars that worked, no joy, then I changed the Geo file out with one of the cars that worked and that failed also. I've read the bin file until my eyes are crossed and can't see anything, but anyway I changed it out with the bin for the SP one changing all the names.

I surrender for now. Cocktail time. Maybe that will help. !**duh*!!
!*don-know!*

BTW I tried this with both the great Brit Kit couplers and the dungy stock ones.

Maybe they just don't feel like coupling at the moment.
Give them time to get to know each other, maybe a dinner and a movie.

I've been looking at this as well. For some reason, the couplers from IHH (the RSC ones are the same) have no collision faces. A loco coupler from Britkits will go right through until it collides with the carbody. Still trying to figure this one out.

Would appreciate whatever you might come up with. Alternatively it would be nice to see C&O repaints of the G-trax passenger cars which work well.

I think it has something to do with their location. If you take any of them other than the CO ones (I have the Brit kit) they still pass through but then couple up close so the vestibules meet, and the air hoses hook up. The Co ones for some reason hit and then don't couple. I even tried just taking the textures and using the SP Geo and changed the bin file to match everything Bob did for the NE car and now I can't get the darn thing to show up. GRRRR! *!twisted!*
