I lower the object using 'V' (or 'B', one is lift, one is drop, can't remember which is which) until it's the heigh of the track, then I use 'F' and 'G' with light taps to rotate it until it's parallel with the track. Then I use the arrows to position it and fine tune height with 'V' and 'B'.

If you wanna get really fussy, use the 'C' and 'N' buttons to move it closer or further, and rotate until when you tap 'C' and 'N' once the WHOLE object (which will be highlighted red) will appear/disappear at once. This means you've got it perfectly parallel to the track.

Sounds time consuming, it's not once you get the hang of it.

You can use the TAB key to align the object to the track. The object needs to be a newly placed object fresh from the objects list - objects already dropped into place will not work:

1) Select an item from the object list
2) Before dropping it into place, hold the TAB key down while hovering the object over a section of tangent track
3) The object should "snap" to align with the track - if it doesn't, adjust your camera view slightly and try again (don't drop the object or release the TAB key)
4) If the object is 90 degrees to the track and pointed the wrong way, go ahead and drop it in place and use the Ctrl key and the object spinner to rotate it into position
Cheers!

This is a fairly new feature, only introduced with TS2013 IIRC.

Like Marc says, it can be a bit "picky" getting it to work first time, but it's well worth persevering with

Seeing how it was not mentioned. When using the keyboard commands or the mouse to move/rotate an object, hold down the shift key at the same time to slow down and make your movement more precise. Puts it in slow motion. Very handy.

**!!bang!!** I must have mistaken Hack in assuming that the object we are trying to align to the track will also pick up the gradient. If it will not pick up the gradient how can you ( fine tune ) adjust the bridge bed to match the track. I must have "spaz" hands because adjusting the bridge bed to match the gradient with that dern yellow ball is crazy! Mountainrail2012
