DEM files to proper format

Unread postby mojoflow » Mon Aug 20, 2012 11:24 pm

Hello,

First post here, but I have been doing a lot of reading.

I have some DEM files (actual *.dem files) that I want to bring into the designer to build a route. The area of interest is my town (Moose Jaw, SK Canada).

I have read about Redem, but it looks like that one pulls data from USGS.

What file formats does railworks understand to import terrain? Is it only hgt?

What are my options for converting my DEM files to a supported format?

Thanks!

Firts off *&!welcome!&*

Now. Railworks only support either .hgt files or .bin files for the terrian. There is aleady a topic about ReDem and how to use it: viewtopic.php?f=7&t=6151&start=30 I recommend you to read trough that thread and ask when you still have questions !*cheers*!

Thanks,

I think you meant this thread: viewtopic.php?f=7&t=6151&hilit=redem

The other one doesn't have any instructions on usage.

My issue/question is that I am in Canada, and from what I understand, redem downloads DEMs from USGS.

I already have the DEM files (four townships worth), and am wondering about conversion so they can be brought into Railworks.

Thanks!

Provided you have the files in BIL format, or have the means to convert whatever you've got, ReDem will work just fine. If your files are in a different format, try a Google search for converting the files. I found this page doing a quick search that might get you going:
