Clinchfeild/CSX Route

Unread postby AuzzeMIt » Sun Apr 15, 2012 9:37 am

HI..

After a good long break aways from VScale I have of late been playing with RW3, I have decided to start building a route and was thinking of tring the Clinchfeild RR set in the 60/70's.

I will be starting the route at St Paul and end at Elkhorn City inluding the Moss #1 power station.

More later

Excellent choice! Pre Family Lines also but early enough to sneak in a Clinchfield Challenger.

There are some good resources of information here: http://www.carolina-clinchfield.org and here: www.clinchfieldcountry.com
Some great current CSX photos that show off the latest CSX repaints on Clinchfield steel are on the latter site.

The Clinchfield Diesel roster of your chosen time frame could pose some problems. Clinchfield was a wealthy road and could afford the biggest and the newest of engines.
F-units and GP7's wouldn't be a problem but SD40's, SD45's and U36C's are! No Clinchfield of the late 70's is complete without those big 6-axle Diesels. In the early 70's it acquired some 50 of them in total, probably to replace the first generation. Dash-2 units only came under Family Lines if I read the roster pages correctly.

Glad to hear someone picking up the ball on this one. There was another member here that was modeling the Clinchfield (also from down-under), but that project may have dropped off the map since there's been no update in a long time. Last I heard is that he had completed track from Elkhorn City to Haysi.
Cheers!

Going to have a surprise for you in a while, a certain model for the route.

P.S, do you recall this building.

More progress.

Do you know the address of this particular building, the real one?

By the way, what will be your plans for the route and what it will be. If freeware I would be glad to build some of the required vintage buildings for it. Starting with this station.

HI..

Thanks for the warm welcome and support for this route.
As I'm learning the tools as I go the route will take awhile to get done, I have been build the decals via RW-Decal so I can get a, idea of where it goes, next I will try and work out the grades, by the way is there any way I can take this info from a map and use it in RW3??

The route will be freeware/donate, all rights given to anyone who wishes to help plus they will be on the beta list.
Well back to getting more decals.

If it's going to be freeware/donate the best way to usually release it would be to have it so the person can download for free and if they like it usually they will donate. I know I would if I liked something well enough, that way it doesn't end up seeming more like payware then freeware.

A while back Hawk posted a definition paragraph of donationware.

If you have any building plans and pictures of them I would be more then happy to build them for the route.

Railfandepot.com has a track chart for the Clinchfiled, showing grades, signals, etc. :D

Fine, but only if he makes it to Johnson City. From the original post, he's laying track between St Paul, VA and Elkhorn City, KY. *!!wink!!*

jpetersjr,

The building in question is the Frieght depot in Johnson City, Tenn, not sure of the address. Johnson City is south of Kingsport and is one of Tenn. largest cities. In 1969 the Clinchfield opened the Highline around Johnson City to shorten the route and keep it from going throough downtown.
