Yes, perhaps during the installation process one of the "checked" items might be to install something like the Ask Toolbar.
Fortunately, for most any freeware programs or utility I ever decide to install, I always carefully choose the "custom install" (if it has that option), and on each step before clicking "Next" see what options it shows or what it's trying to install, and if it has some item checked, such as a Toolbar or some extra I didn't want, I'm sure to Un-Check that particular item.

I guess that's how most freeware can be freeware, is because often times they have it bundled with some toolbar or some other fairly useless or intrusive app you don't want (in which they probably get a commission of sales from doing it that way), and they're probably counting on that a lot of Users with just click "Next, Next, Next" without reading the options or what it's installing.
Plus a lot of free utilities have some "Pro Version" they try to sell you too that may have a few extra features. But yeah, I still recommend Glary Utilities, I find it's a great little utility with lots of nice features and what it can do. But of course it's up to each User to be careful about the installation process of any program they install (especially any free ones).

Of course, if you do accidentally install something like an Ask toolbar, you should be able to remove it from your Window Control Panels Add/Remove Programs list.

Cheers! :)

I installed GlaryUtilities and it does seem to do a good job, catching stuff CCleaner doesn't catch. I haven't yet tested to see if CCleaner catches anything Glary doesn't catch.
Two things I do like about CCleaner that doesn't seem to be an option in Glary is the ability to add files to be cleaned that CCleaner wouldn't normally look for and the ability to select certain cookies to not be cleaned, and that's just what I've found so far without spending a lot of time with Glary.

One thing about this particular installer is you have to uncheck the second Ask box before you uncheck the first box or else Ask Toolbar will still be installed, at least according to the link I posted.

Bottom line: Just be careful folks when installing any freeware utility. *!!wink!!*

Hi Hawk.
Yes, I do like both CCleaner and Glary Utilities, but if I had to make a choice between the two I think I'd go with Glary as it seems to have more options and features than CCleaner and seems to be a bit more thorough in some ways. But, CCleaner is perhaps a but "easier / user-friendly" to figure out and use. I think it can be good to use both, as in my experience with using them each tends to find a few things that the other one might have missed. And each may have some options that the other one doesn't have.

But, there is a way to select what files or folders to include or exclude when doing the general junk Cleaning with Glary.
From the "Modules" tab, then from the "Clean & Repair" section there, click on the Disk Cleaner, then you'll have an Options button towards the bottom, click on that and you'll have three tabs of file types to clean, or folders / files to include or exclude from the cleaning process. Of course this can be a bit confusing if you don't know the specific folders or files you were wanting to include or exclude aside from the default list.

For removing cookies, it's not in the general junk Disk Section, rather instead go to the "Privacy & Security" section, then "Tracks Eraser". But yeah, I think CCleaner has better options for specifying certain cookies to clean or not in this regards.

In the Registry Cleaner options, you have options of sections you can check to scan, or unchecked to not scan, plus there is an "Ignore List Manager" button there too.

And you're right, it's good practice to be careful during the installation process of freeware utilities / programs, as many tend to try to bundle something extra (like a Toolbar or some-such) that you probably didn't want, but in most cases there is usually the option to not install those extras that you don't want.
