Signals, Signals, and more signals.

Discussion about RailWorks route design.

Signals, Signals, and more signals.

Hi all,

So, I'm back to the whole signal debacle with my route. I'd like to streamline down the signals on my route to a couple of providers, but I need to keep them compatible with each other. The route is a mix of Tri-Light (Type G) and SafeTrans signals. I'd like to keep them as similar as possible. I really like the design and visibility the RCAP offers but they don't offer the aspects I need. Of the unique aspects I'm looking for I have a couple from some other routes that offer them. There's a 2 over 2 offered from the Tehachapi pass route (I think) but it's only for a mast mount. I'd need it in a gantry form. Is there a way to hide the placard so that I can Gantry mount it? I also am looking for a 1 over 1 over 3 signals for a few spots as well. I only see 1 over 2 over 3 or 3 over 1 over 3 or a mix of them but none with 1 over 1 over 3. If anyone has any insight or suggestions, please let me know.

Any help is appreciated as always.

Thanks!

Ken

If you were to keep with the RCAP signals, which aspects do you need and for which signal set? The RCAP signal scripts are not compiled, so they can be edited. I played around with this a number of years back, trying to get an advanced approach (flashing yellow) to work with the Griswold signal head on a mast.

It would be for the NS SafeTrans signal set. I would need a few different aspects... 2 over 2, a single standard head, 1 over 3 over 2, and 1 over 3 over 3, and 3 over 3 over 3.

For a single head, this is what I've come up with so far. I'm using the Kuju RailworksUS single head on the RCAP Safetran post. For whatever reason, RCAP didn't make a single head Safetran model, so I used the Kuju version. It's still using RCAP's NS signal scripts. The one issue though is that lower head bracket. It's part of the post model and I don't know of a way to "erase" it. If we can find a Safetran single head post from another route, and assuming the signals are made the same way with the posts and heads being separate objects, then maybe I can do some further signal kitbashing.

Another option is to use the single head posts from the RCAP Norac V20 signals, and place the Kuju head on them. It means you'll have a mix of different posts, but it is an option.

Lastly, if you do decide to stay with the Safetran posts, I'm assuming you'll want both left and right versions, along with a separate head for back to back signals. Will you also need gantry mounts?

Now that you mentioned it...

I remembered messing with the XML files of a signal and was able to basically take the heads off the gantry mount, but I wasn't able to remove the link to the track. I forgot how I did it though. I'm wondering if I have a signal that's a 3 over whatever with no mount and I hide the second head... it should work. I just have to remember how to hide it. I have the XML files if you want to look at them. I was using the SMM signal package.

From what I can tell, the number of links are defined in the post bin file. I had copied a 3/2 Safetran with a single track link bin to create my single head version. I still need to test it on a my test track. Assuming it works, I'll also create the 2 track link version along with the left handed post version and a set of reversed heads for back to back heads. If you have a chance, please send over your xml files that you were working on. I'd like to take a look at them. Thanks!
