Caltrain license expiring

Unread postby cnwfan » Sun Feb 16, 2025 4:28 pm

There's a not small blurb in the TSW February roadmap that DTG's Caltrain license is expiring, and that all TSW and TSC routes / add-ons for Caltrain will be removed from the stores effective 2/27/25. TSW is running an 80% off for the Caltrain stuff for the Play Station. Also mentions that other sales will be coming up. So... if you don't have the Caltrain route / add-on's for either TSW or TSC, you may want to keep it at the top of your shopping list. BTW, the Caltrain route is one of my all time favorites for TSC.

And for DTG / Gary, have I got an idea for you! Since Caltrain is dropping the licensing, how about DTG backdates the route to the Southern Pacific days, say the early 80's just before Caltrain took over? Just saying.

I just tried to buy both Peninsula Corridor: San Francisco – San Jose and Peninsula Corridor: San Francisco - Gilroy Route but Steam would not let me, stating they overlap and to remove the redundant package. One of the comments says that the Gilroy route includes the SF-SJ route. Is that true? The Gilroy description implies that it is the whole route but if so, why are they still selling the SF-SJ route? !*don-know!* !**conf**!

From the Steam store page for the SF to Gilroy version:

Test your limits with Train Simulator’s Peninsula Corridor: San Francisco – Gilroy route, bringing you contemporary Caltrain commuter railroading and Union Pacific freight operations at their challenging finest!

The Peninsula Corridor: San Francisco – Gilroy route is an extension to the popular San Francisco – San Jose route, and includes the full length of Caltrain’s dynamic San Francisco – Gilroy commuter operation (77 miles), plus additional Union Pacific freight trackage that extends the total length of the California route to more than 90 miles!

Along Caltrain’s 77 route miles there are 32 station stops stretching from San Francisco’s busy 4th and King Street Station to San Jose’s stylish Diridon Station to Gilroy. Six new stations are included in the extension: Tamien, Capitol, Gilroy, Morgan Hill, San Martin, and Blossom Hill. The route also includes Caltrain’s modern Central Equipment & Maintenance Facility at San Jose and lay-over commuter yards at Gilroy and Tamien.

The Peninsula Corridor: San Francisco – Gilroy route features Caltrain’s workhorse Electro-Motive F40PH-2CAT and stylish MPI “MPXpress” MP36PH-3C diesel locomotives as well as the railroad’s Nippon Sharyo and Bombardier cab car and coach bi-level commuter equipment.

Looks like you get the whole shoot'n match according to what I'm reading. Try the Gilroy version first and see what happens. Worst case is that you need the original SF to SJ route for an additional $4.99.

I read that but I wanted to see if anyone else knew for sure. Someone on the Dovetail forum also said that it was silly to have the SF-SJ route still for sale.

I mostly want it for the Illinois Central route which lists both as required. Off to the Steam store. *!!thnx!!*

I already had the route for TSC and TSW. But I had both the MP15DC switcher and MP36PH-3C Baby Bullet for TSW on my Steam wish list for the longest time, but just never got around to buying them…. Until now for $3.99 each. Both the routes and the loco DLCs are 80% off, but the High Iron mini scenarios DLC for the TSC route is only 35% off at $3.24.

ATTENTION: As someone mentioned on the DTG forums…. If you want a Union Pacific GP38-2 locomotive in your collection, pick up the TSC San Francisco to Gilroy route because it’s the only place to get it as far as I know… unless a 3rd party offers one that I’m not aware of.

There are a number of GP38-2s available - RSC GP38-2 packs BN and BNSF, Barnez -The Racetrack, Montana Hi-Line etc, but if you want the Tru-Rail non dynamic version then yes, the Caltrain version is a requirement.

I realized my mistake as you were typing your response and edited my post to say I meant the only Union Pacific GP38-2. I edited and reposted it before you could respond…. Cuz notice there is no Last Edited tag on my post that only happens when someone posts after you before you finalize your edit. *!greengrin!*

I do also already own the BN/BNSF GP38-2 pack.

I would buy that in a second - if it´s decently made. But isn´t DTG focusing only on TSW now?
Furthermore, the rolling stock. We have the F7 and E8; but what appropriate cars do exist for the SP in this sim?

Both routes are 80% off on Steam, and the 2 scenario packs are 35% off. I think the sale ends on the 27th. I have both routes which I purchased quite some time ago.

I get the San Jose route on the 21 Dec. 2016 and the Gilroy route on the 21 Dec. 2017.

I was looking at my Steam purchases history and I purchased Railworks on the 12th of June 2010.

I don't own the route and I actually forgot it existed, let alone that it had a UP GP38-2 in it. Thanks for the correction. *!greengrin!*
