Much progress on E unit light packages (there are 3 main variants plus the IC tri-lite and single reflector on a few units).

I also have posted images here of "Kalamazoo Terminal 3", in pseudo 1940s era, with classic shortline engine with clerestory roofed coaches behind. Since Sierra 3 was first released, I have had this in mind, and thanks to the modelling talent of Darlan (DSGDDR) today it came to life: a wood fired shortline ten-wheeler in the style of the W.T. Carter Brother engines (and not too dis-similar to others such as Live Oak, Long Leaf Lumber, and many more).

I have also experimented with a GP30, and will consider either it or the new GP35. Both of which need some sound alterations, and texture improvements.

Thank you to all that have made all of this possible. Kris for the E unit headlight work, Darlan for the chimney, and Brian for the GP30.

All 76 "A units" which survived as of 2020 are in game, yes (plus 3 B units). I cannot take credit for all of them however. Buzz deserves credit for a great many, I must certainly say, as do some other creators.
I would divide the units into 3 categories:
1. Units which I did from a blank start.
1.5 Units which are all new, baring using texturing from existing unit as a reference.
2. Units which I created from an existing unit someone else did, and enhanced with child objects. This could vary from a simple number change to more in depth texturing, plus child objects, and sounds.
3. Pre-existing units which others did and I enhanced with child objects (and possibly minimal texture tweaks to accommodate such child objects, such as replacing painted on port-holes with real portholes, or adding sub-lettering).

The “Western Units”: Union Pacific, Southern Pacific, “Spokane International” 5808, and Arizona Eastern/”SP”

I also edited Buzz’s CPR scheme into a what-if CPR 1800. The real 1800 was apparently considered for preservation, so this could be such; or an existing (probably PRR or BN) unit dressed as it, as has been done numerous times. (2x12-567) – 3

Buzz also did the WSOR units in their Alaska condition, although for peak authenticity, they would need to be redone on a different base to reflect the side-sheet rebuilds.

See next post for North-Eastern and Southern/Mid-Atlantic units.

Each unit has the appropriate physics, engine sounds, lights, and horn sounds to the best of my abilities.

This should represent every unit that existed when this project began in 2020, baring the original B&O EA No. 51, and E5 at IRM. The 2 “E6s” were only done to complete the “pair” with the matching E8s (CRIP 652 runs with CRIP 630), and to pair L&N 770 with “L&N 796”. Presently I have Buzz’s ACL E7 as a what-if rebuild from the gutted BN E9Am 9907, but I do have a separate 9907 file, so if one wants this to be 501, it could be. There are more units, as a number of units appear in multiple liveries to represent their preservation career. (6902, SLRG 515 and 518, WSOR 101, 102, and 103, CRIP 630 and 652, BN 9907)

I hope you all enjoy very much,
This should be every unit, and represents MANY, MANY hours of time thanks to many wonderful people, as well as my own. Even yet I still have a few bells to alter on some WSOR units, some thumbnails to correct, and I have noticed a slight texture glitch on the WSOR 102B which must be corrected, Once again, when the E units are done (which they should be by the end of the month) I will release the route, and several stock reskin packs.
As time progresses, I could be convinced to skin a few units in previous (or future) condition, and will do "796" in KZOO paint for the 1990s, at some point.

Today's post centres on the 'modern' freight power I aim to include (all stock is now done, but I have DOWT/Thomas coming up now....). The Kalamazoo Terminal Ry is based upon the Grand Elk Railroad, but with its own paint scheme (based upon the colours of the Kalamazoo seal and Tennessee, Alabama & Georgia Ry GP38 No. 80; the first high hood GP38). GDLK operates some former SOU units, although now chopped. Growing up in the South, when I hear "GP38" or "SD40" or any other unit, I immediately assume high hood. I forget that is a rarity. The only GP38s, GP30, etc I ever see are high hood, same for the SD40s. As such I give you the modern (post-ALCo power, which in this timeline came during the Pfizer boom of 2020-2022). The railroad originally was hatched as an all-ALCo road in the style of the pre-2009 Michigan Southern, out of White Pigeon Jct. However as the main customer, Pfizer (ex-Upjohn) at Portage/Kalamazoo began to increase out-put for jabs, it became apparent the ALCos could not handle this. So a "what-if" scenario of jabs travelling by train was cooked up, and therefore funding for EMDs came forward. Initially one SD unit (SD24) and GP38-2s being offered at NS auction were created: CB&Q 510, SOU 5196, SOU 5086, and after protest of high hoods, NS/CR GP38-2 5357. Eventually a reckless scenario ended with 5196 being rolled, so a stand-in GP38-2 was acquired, 5107.

EMD GP38-2
No. 5086 (ex-SOU): Named The William E. Upjohn, after Dr. William E. Upjohn, founder of Upjohn and major name in the development of Kalamazoo. This came around just after 5196, as the real 5086 was used in the region. (if the paintschemes were the same they would have been the same day).
Screenshot_[KTR] Kalamazoo Terminal Ry. V3_42.29411--85.56379_12-01-21.jpg

No. 5107 (ex-SOU): Named The Charles R. Pfizer, after the founder of Pfizer. This was the last GP38-2 acquired, which came about after an in game derailment would have put the 5196 out of action for months (roll-over at BO Tower).
Screenshot_[KTR] Kalamazoo Terminal Ry. V3_42.29477--85.57857_12-03-43.jpg

No. 5196 (ex-SOU): Named The Anthony S. Fauci (in jest after Tony 'The Science' Fauci who deserves credit towards the money made by the drug companies during the COVID panic.) The first GP38-2 acquired.
Screenshot_[KTR] Kalamazoo Terminal Ry. V3_42.29351--85.57756_12-00-23.jpg

No. 5357 (ex-Conrail): Named The Robert J. Betzig after the Pfizer VP and Site Leader at the Local plant, the main customer on the former GR&I Stub (ex-Upjohn Plant) that made jabs. This came about after someone remarked that the real GP38-2s were short hood. This unit came about at the same time as 5196, the numbers came from an NS auction listing at the time.
Screenshot_[KTR] Kalamazoo Terminal Ry. V3_42.29320--85.56483_12-01-07.jpg

GDLK operates 3 ex-CN GP40-2s, at one point rostering a 4th unit. Several units have been de-rated to 2,000HP. These units will be the subject of the next post.

I am very pleased that the equipment is now done. I hope it will be suitable to put it in the library, along with the car skins (some fictional PFZX reefers and mortuary cars for instance, plus the passenger cars).

GDLK brought 4 GP40-2LWs to Kalamazoo, with 3 remaining in the area to date.

4002 (GP40-2): Named for a good friend of mine, who is from Kalamazoo, and was the original reason for the route. The J.L. Atkins.
Screenshot_[KTR] Kalamazoo Terminal Ry. V3_42.29340--85.56499_12-00-08.jpg

4009 (de-rated to GP38-2): Named The Albert Bourla, after the Chairman and CEO of Pfizer.
Screenshot_[KTR] Kalamazoo Terminal Ry. V3_42.29346--85.56468_12-00-27.jpg

4012 (re-assigned, left mid-2010s): Named for G. Mikael Dolsten, the President of Pfizer.
Screenshot_[KTR] Kalamazoo Terminal Ry. V3_42.29726--85.57815_12-00-57.jpg

4017 (de-rated to GP38-2): Named The Titus S. Bronson, after the founder of Kalamazoo.

Next will be the older units, a GP30, GP35, and 2 GP30 Road-Slugs (fictional in Kalamazoo, at the request of a KTR route builder (scenery)).

The Grand Elk operates 2 former GP35s, both low-nose. I give you the fictional equivalents, with one swapped for a GP30 in a nod to 3 of the KTR team's fond memories with SOU 2594.

This unit is named after the last President of Upjohn, prior to Pfizer, John L. Zabriskie, Jr. This high hood unit was one of a handful to survive into the 21st century. Thank you to those who made this possible.
Screenshot_[KTR] Kalamazoo Terminal Ry. V3_42.28563--85.57294_09-24-57.jpg

And one GP35, named The Donald S. Gilmore for the President of Upjohn in the 1940s-1960s, responsible for the site development in Kalamazoo and Portage. I have made some changes to the lens flares, and sounds (a mix of 567 and 645 sounds) to replace the poorly sounds it came with. Sadly I do not know of any good proper 567-D3 or DE turbo sounds in Train Sim.
Screenshot_[KTR] Kalamazoo Terminal Ry. V3_42.29318--85.56510_09-24-15.jpg

Once again a sort of necessity, with the increased traffic, lots of switching was being done at Botsford. A KTR member tried (and liked) the VRC RWA GP40-2/GP30RS slug-set, and requested such, and I was happy to oblige, so I give you the 6487/515 combination (ex-CSX). The Lawrence N. Upjohn, named for the last blood-Upjohn family president (Gilmore married in), President in the 1940s. The GP30 is ex-GM&O and therefore bears the name of a friend's father who was a GM&O Manager.

Screenshot_[KTR] Kalamazoo Terminal Ry. V3_42.29383--85.56553_07-24-21.jpg

His grandfather was the Superintendent of Motive Power, who chose to diesel so early, and bought the PAs, GP30s, etc. With this, another set have to be created to name a unit after this gentleman, and therefore required full GM&O paint as a nod. Therefore the GP40-2 was returned to its period paint, Chessie system, using modified textures from the Mountain Sub GP40.
Screenshot_[KTR] Kalamazoo Terminal Ry. V3_42.29398--85.56447_07-26-18.jpg

This is all of the modern EMD power (plus the SD24, 510, ex-National RR Museum).

The next post will focus on the 20th century power, ALCos, with 2 Baldwins, as used from the 1940s-2010s single-handedly, and sparingly for locals and switchers post-EMD invasion (in the style of South Carolina's Lancaster & Chester butt-head switchers after GP38s arrived). It is my hope this well rounded roster will compliment the route and give RWA members many hours of fun, across a wide variety of eras and units.

I apologise for the lack of update. Real life railway preservation has been keeping me busy. Museum programs, researching paint for a Pullman heavyweight, and Pullman operations. I have sent the route out to a couple more people, and a few more errors have cropped up, such as light flares, a .bin issue, and a few texture issues. Hopefully those have been rectified now. An operating session occurred today, and all I can say is my goodness that 50' Monon boxcar (1455, from RWA) is teetery, any slack and it falls over).

Hello All,
I have been working on some scenarios to include with the route, as well as an introductory video.

How would everyone here like the route released?
I had planned on having 4 files to go to RWA:
- A route file, plus the limited asset reskins needed, and the scenarios
- A freight locomotive reskin and re-bundled asset pack
- A steam locomotive reskin pack
- And of course, the E Unit & passenger reskin and re-bundled asset pack (which will be fairly sizeable)

Would this be suitable to those here? I really would like to get back to work on route expansion on the line to White Pigeon, but want to get something out first.

If the e-unit pack is going to be huge we would appreciate it if you could break it into several smaller packages. First would be to not overload our bandwidth and second many might only be interested in some of the railroads. Looking forward to this being released again being in a sequence not all at once for the same reason.

Looking forward to this being released again being in a sequence not all at once for the same reason.

Certainly, I will gladly do such.
Maybe a Southeastern Pack, Western, Northeastern, Mid-West, and a Commuter pack?

Sounds good!
All these files will be downloadable from a single page in the library.
Your readme file for the route will be the text on the page.
You can add a thumbnail picture for the page, and a couple of full-size pics.

The video to accompany the route is now up (unlisted):

I have finished up some final things on the route. There are some scenarios that are totally complete included, plus a few just-for-fun ones, and a couple that are in-progress.

I will send the route for upload later this week, and then will be the stock re-skins/packs. The E Units will be last, as every time I go through them I find something, either an alpha layer issue, headlight, sound issue, etc. Even today I caught a couple in the F units. This is after months of testing on my end, and with friends on their ends, just the nature of having SO many units.

I hope you enjoy the video. I am so sorry for my atrocious voice. I sound practically Australian it seems, the nerves of recording to a blank screen. I can narrate to passengers, guests, or a camera, it seems with slightly better results. (See here: https://youtu.be/q1ZNm4Pkpp4?feature=shared , it is slightly better).
