System Tray and Task Bar in Windows 11

Unread postby AmericanSteam » Sun Feb 26, 2023 3:17 pm

I recently upgraded to Windows 11 on my desktop. I know that the change was not entirely necessary but I really wanted to be knowledgeable and comfortable with it before purchasing a new laptop for my gal. After a few weeks I have it setup so it looks like my familiar Windows 10 setup, colors, folders, ect. I also put my familiar shortcuts on the desktop. I use a dual monitors set up as extended desktop. This makes it easier to edit routes and scenarios and to do transfer files for reskinning. I play TSC in borderless and one of the things I missed was being able to have the task bar and system tray on both monitors. This ability was not enabled in Windows 11. I searched for free and paid utilities to do this, tried several and finally decided on Display Fusion Pro. It is free to try for 30 days. I purchased it, it was $34.00 US for a lifetime license. It has several other customization settings that I am playing with to see how they work. This works quite well for me. It is available for trial use here: https://www.displayfusion.com/

I have win 11 and have the Taskbar on both monitors. I don't know if I did anything special but in settings Personalization\Taskbar check off "Show my taskbar on all displays". That's all I can think of.

My current Version is 22H2 (OS Build 22621.1265) and when I installed this that option was not in the drop down list and I did a web search to confirm this.I have had 2 updates since then and I never checked to see if it changed. Old man fog..... !!jabber!! After your post I reviewed and the option is now there, however I want the system tray on both monitors (The right side of the task bar) and that can't be done in Windows 11. That is why I use the software. Because the system tray is covered when running TS in borderless it covers up the system tray.

I have Display Fusion through Steam. not sure if it's Pro, probably not. It does have a lot of handy features not found in Windows 11. I just upgraded my mobo and cpu so I go 11 also.

It does have a lot of things to customize. I will be taking time to review the manual on this. 99 cents more on Steam.

If you have Windows 11 and are using Display Fusion or any other 3rd party task bar customization to put the system tray on your second monitor do not install KB5022913. It will remove this ability. After uninstalling KB5022913 update and two hard restarts the update finally removed itself and the system tray returned to the second monitor and the search with Bing (I hate Bing) disappeared from the taskbar search box. There are some other User Interface (UI) compatibility issues that may cause a no boot issue with this update, you may want to pause updates.
