Out Now: Springfield Line Update

Unread postby GreatNortherner » Sun Feb 20, 2022 2:47 pm

Hi all,

It's been a "few" years since the release of the Springfield Line and I wanted to dust off the cobwebs and update some things with new models and tricks I've acquired since the route's release. The result of which is a fairly large visuals update for the Springfield Line route, which will be coming to Train Sim soon.

This update will be free of charge but exact details about the how & when are yet to be determined.

What will be included:

  • much better looking lineside 3D trees courtesy of Wayne Campbell
  • environment visuals (longer view distances without the need for SilverLining weather, new skybox with better cloud textures, improved lighting and now also with moon phases)
  • weather visuals
  • my new GP9 model
  • and more!

Stay tuned for more!

And meanwhile, to whet your appetite:

Great to hear! I have a strong attachment, to this route. Spent my youthful years along the Connecticut shore and watched many New Haven trains come and go. !!*ok*!!

The new Gp9 model looks great! Is the cab getting an update as well?

Thanks much for the many kind words.

Things are looking fine in testing so far, so it shouldn't be too long now before the update goes live. !*brav*!

The updated Springfield GP9 is essentially the same model which I've used in my latest B&O releases. It will also include the enhanced cabview from the B&O Geeps. The one thing I couldn't port over were the script improvements like Mike Rennie's wonderful brake simulations, as that could have potentially impacted existing scenarios and also changed how the loco "feels", which not everybody who bought it might be happy with.

Cheers,
Michael

Hello all,
Will this mean that routes that utilize the Springfield Line for assets will receive the graphical changes in terms of vegetation and the sort?

Yes, I think that will be the case. The updated route assets were all done as 1:1 file replacements, so anything that calls for Springfield Line assets should now automatically pick the updated ones (trees, telegraph lines, etc.)

Cheers,
Michael
