GP38-2 Non Dynamic

Unread postby mindenjohn » Wed Apr 21, 2021 7:19 am

Would any of our wonderful repaint artists please consider repaints of the Montana Hi-Line non dynamic brake fitted GP38-2? The Rock island had a batch in Rock (Bankrupcy) Blue most of which went to C&NW after the closure, these were all non dynamic brake fitted. The Rock named most of them, I can supply numbers and names (and pictures showing the name in position) and it means individual loco number/naming (maybe 4/5 examples?), C&NW numbers were consecutive so auto numbering can be used.

TruRail Simulations made a non-dynamic brake version of the UP GP38-2.

However, since it is not allowed to be reskinned by the community (as part of their policy), perhaps you could ask them?

There is a Non Dynamic GP38-2 in the Montana Hi-Line assets also but I will try TruRail Simulations when their website is back up, I do not use FaceBook.
Thanks for the info.

The TruRail one is based off of the CalTrain locomotive.

However, the Montana Hi-Line Geep would be inaccurate for all these railroads, since it has the weird retrofitted BNSF nose headlight.

Thank you gentlemen for the info. Sadly the Caltrain version is DB fitted. Will have to wait for the website to come back.

Well the CNW one is viable for the time being considering they did have Geeps with dynamic brakes (4701-4710).

They bought them from CSX 4701-6 and 4711 they were rebuilt GP38s. They had 35 GP38-2s ordered by Rock Island, delivered to CNW as 4600 - 4634 inclusive these were all non dynamic brake. Still any CNW GP38 is better than none. Rock Island is poorly served though, surprising considering their very varied locomotive stock.

Could in theory just make the same mods to the Caltrain GP38-2 that TruRail did. The dynamic brake fans are a node on the model which you can get rid of with some very simple lua, and then from there it's a matter of creating in Blender a child object to fill the hole in the body that scripting the fans off created. Unfortuantely, the radiator fans on the roof can't be gotten rid of so you'll probably want to just model a cap for it. If you don't do any of the fancy scripting that they did for the lights and such, it's a pretty easy job.

I am curious,is the A/C unit on top of the cab a child-object,or an integral part of the mesh? I have not purchased the routes, but would consider it to get these non-dynamic 38s.
