Cool part: some of you who were never physically here, KNOW where this is.

I recently came across this picture of a painting. It depicts a 3 cylinder 4-6-0 of the Royal Scot class Number 46170 named "British Legion" at Birmingham New Street Station. It depicts a scene in 1962 (the locomotive shed code is 5A Crewe North depot and British Legion was until 1962 a London Camden depot based locomotive) and is in the early part of the year as later in 1962 Birmingham New Street was all but demolished and then rebuilt (trains kept running!) for the electrification scheme completed in 1966. British Legion was the 71st and last member of the class being unique in that it was originally a high pressure experimental locomotive (No. 6399 "Fury") built on a Royal Scot chassis. It suffered a boiler explosion and was then rebuilt as a Royal Scot. The train is standing at Platform 6 which was the Platform for the North and the train is most likely the morning train from Birmingham New Street to Glasgow Central (the tender is very full indicating a start point not an interim stop) which British Legion would probably take as far as Carlisle where a Glasgow engine would take over. The destination board on the carriage is unfortunately not readable.

Quebec_Loco_1954.jpg

Colorized photo in my hometown Quebec City, February 1954.
This is before I was born. I have never seen a steam locomotive in action.
Nowadays there is almost no rail infrastructure or activity left in Quebec City. Turns out it was going strong until the sixties. I'm seeing lots of steam engines on old pictures.
