Loco / Stock Swap tool available

Unread postby thor1969 » Sat Sep 12, 2020 2:30 pm

Hello

in german Rail-Sim forum a topic about a new tool has been opened, it is an alternative to RWTools for swapping stock. as far to my tests it handles even thise cases where RWTools refuses to swap a wagon for a loco. Maybe due to it's only purpose for swapping stock, it operates faster.
You also can define rules for swapping a piece of stock always with the same replacement. It is still under development and already received some improvements over the last days. You find the links to the developer's GitHub in the first article of the thread, where you also can find the download links.
One caveat currenly, the ReadMe file is in german currently, but there is not much text in it. So it should be easy to translate with a translator, also handling is similiar to RWTools.
The source code is also available, for those who are interested.

Cheers

Hi all,

I am the author of LocoSwap from rail-sim.de. Thorsten told me that he made a post about it here, so I decided to come here and introduce myself. I'm actually not a native speaker in German, but I mostly play with German and Austrian routes, so that's why I chose to publish my little side project there. Please feel free to ask anything about the program, and if you run into problems I am also here to help. Nice to meet you and have fun!

Cheers,

Very nice program, thanks for sharing.

A couple of things that might be nice to add (or perhaps I am just missing where they are)

- Show the weather selected for the scenario, allow the ability to adjust weather pattern
- Aggregate a list of stock used in a scenario. It seems like now you must click through each consist to know what is being used.

It is kind of a lite version of RWTools, easy and quicker to use. With those suggestions added, it would a most useful tool. Thank you for your efforts. I would,IMHO, avoid adding to many options to this that would bloat and slow this tool down. For those who need thumbnails and added utilities there is always RWTools for that purpose. Looking forward to updates to this tool. *!!thnx!!*

Thanks for the suggestion! I would definitely implement the aggregated rolling stock list in the upcoming version.
I will look into the weather options as well, but I will figure out whether it causes additional loads to load the weather part of the scenario files, as I don't want to slow down the program as a whole and lose focus on the rolling stock swap functionality.

Thanks for your nice words. Yes, I totally agree with you about not bloating the program. LocoSwap is not intended to become a replacement of RW-Tools but only to serve as an alternative that solves problems people may run into while swapping rolling stock.

I just had a chance to test the program, and came here to thank you! It’s really easy and fast to swap stock, especially with the rules you can set. I wanted to play the saga local series from workshop (7 parts) and I was missing sd70pack02, and also I wanted to replace the player locos with SS BN locos, with the rules set, it took a couple of minutes, all done - ready to play. Only thing I could ask for is weather settings, but not a must.

Tried to install. But once I press the "RUN" on the "Open File - Security Warning" pop up. I get the response as shown in the attachment below. This after having downloaded the program again and also turning off my Bullguard AV.

Nice program, thanks.

It would be useful to add a feature - "Remove item".

Hi JohnT, I see you are running Windows 7 - do you have -Net 4.5 Runtime installed? This is a requirment according to the Readme file, and is not present by default in Windows 7
