Start Up Splash Screen.

Unread postby trev123 » Mon Jan 06, 2020 5:38 pm

My startup splash screen looks like what is in the screenshot in the attachment not showing the latest releases etc. I have contacted DTG support about this and they have told me different things to try which make no difference. On startup, TS is meant to sync with Steam to show the latest releases according to DTG which somehow mine isn't. I don't know whether this has anything to do with my download between 500 KBs to about 1 MBs once it used to be about 10 MBs. I told DTG unless my speed increase I won't be purchasing from Steam anymore taking about 1hr to download about 600 MB when it should be less than 5 minutes. I get 10 MBs or more from Just Trains when I download which are further away from me than Steam. Yes, I have tried different servers to no avail. Tried everything in Steams FAQs to do with connections. I did a verify files on Steam about a month or so back and the splash screen for a while was showing the latest releases but slowly reverted back to showing those old ones. The thing is that you cannot contact Steam directly except by posting in their support forums which I have done months ago with no reply from Steam. This issue has no effect on me playing TS though.

Is it that much of a disappointment to not have advertisements in your game?

Trev
What version of TS is showing in the start-up screen it should be v68.2c
I guess that you have deleted the "Web Browser Cache" in Steam?

Thanks, Peter. I had deleted the cache in Steam which I think was the browser cache but shall check again and also the cache in TS. It might have something to do with my download connection to Steam. 600 MB in about an hour how pathetic. I just downloaded the latest Nvidia drivers of 575 MB which downloaded in less than a minute.

I'm running 68.2c Peter and have just deleted the browser cache but nothing has changed.

Has your Steam downloads always been that slow? Or does it vary? If it varies, does the slowness seem to correspond to certain times of the day? Agreed, 600 mb in an hour is slow, but the constraint can happen anywhere along the pipeline. As for the splash screen issue, when you started up a Drive session over the past couple of weeks, did you see the "Winter Sale" screen as the route / content loaded?

Yeah I have a pretty fast connection but those drivers usually take about 3 to 4 minutes.
Steam can be slow at times. Depends on time, traffic etc..
I would be checking with my ISP rather than DTG or Steam.

Anyway thanks for all your replies, I have been in contact with DTG about is and after sending emails back and forth they have no idea why this is happening and suggest that I reinstall TS. Probably not worth the effort for such a small issue although I have folders and files in the main Railworks directory which shouldn't be there TS is functioning properly though.

As for the download speeds no it hasn't always been this slow I use to download at around 10 MB/s it has only been like this for about the last 18 months or so. I have complained is the Steam support forums but have had no response from Steam about in about the 2 months since I posted.

I had a thought last night that I have 2 Steam accounts which also has TS on it. The reason I have 2 Steam accounts was for my nephew to be able to play the game of Halflife many years ago while I played other games on Steam, this was before TS came to Steam. Anyway I started TS up on that account and when the splash screen came up I clicked on the greyed-out store icon and all the latest releases showed up. I quite that account and signed up with my current account and started TS and when the splash screen showed it had the latest offers etc on it. Another thing that I was going to do on my other account was to try the download speed by purchasing a TS DLC. I was able to get to the purchase screen and when I pressed the purchase button it said I didn't own TS2020 and it said click here which took you to the store screen to purchase TS2020. Go figure although I can play it from that account.

with regard to your download time: I had this one or to years ago. It helped a lot to change the steam download server in that case. Perhaps this might be a solution for you?

Greetings
