GN Cascadian
Phase 1
Stevens Pass Under Wire
1929-1956

The short version:

  • The Cascadian is a rework of the Stevens Pass route.
  • The route is payware, moderately priced at 30$, and independently released through Railworks America.
  • It requires DTG's European Loco & Asset Pack and US Loco & Asset Pack, available on Steam.
  • If you purchased RailWorks DLC for TS2012 or earlier, chances are you already own these packs.
  • Phase 1 encompasses only the eastern half of the original Stevens Pass route.
  • Phase 2 extends the route westward to Everett. It is available as a free patch.
  • Rolling stock is included, such as Y-1 Electrics and freight/passenger cars.
  • Quick Drive scenarios, two Free Roams, and four three-part Standard scenarios are included.
  • Additional scenarios are available as separate, free downloads.
  • Additional GN-themed locomotives are available as separate, free downloads.

About the Route

The Cascadian route for Train Simulator is a backdated version of the popular Stevens Pass route which was originally released in 2013. Both the Cascadian and Stevens Pass were developed by the same team of railroad simulation enthusiasts: Jim Friedland, Michael Stephan and Rick Grout.
While the Stevens Pass route depicts present-day operations on BNSF’s Scenic Subdivision, the target era of the Cascadian route ranges from 1929 to 1956, so there’s a lot more operational flexibility. You can operate steam, electric or diesel locomotives on the route, as would be appropriate for the date specified in the scenario you’re running.
There are also plenty of opportunities to operate "short line" scenarios, running smaller freight and passenger trains between the numerous local industries and flag stops.

So how do I get the route and add-ons?

First buy the route here on Railworks America

Then download these free files from the Cascadian add-ons
in the Railworks America library and install them in this order:
  1. Route Patch 1
  2. Route Patch 2
  3. Scenario Patch 1
  4. West Expansion
  5. West Expansion Patch 1
  6. West Expansion Patch 2

Then download and install free optional goodies such as locomotives, repaints, etc, from the same folder in the library.

Finally, download and install free scenarios from the Cascadian scenarios in the library.
