Problem Swapping Locos with RW Tools

Unread postby harryadkins » Sat May 04, 2019 9:47 pm

Hi Mike,

I'm having issues swapping locos with RW Tools. After I've selected the loco to replace and the new loco, when I press the "Swap Selected Units," RW Tools tells me it can't swap wagons for engines. I've tried using several different locos with the same issues.

In this particular instance, I'm attempting to swap the Kuju F7 for a RSC F40. RW Tools swapped the passenger cars with no problems. I'm running Windows 10 with plenty of memory and a fast processor.

Any ideas?

Hi Harry,

Long time since I have heard from you, I hope all is well over there.

Do you have the latest version of RW_Tools v8.0.36 from my site? I did have a problem with that option in RW_Tools and think it should be fixed in the latest version.

My site is now www.agenetools.com

Hi Mike,

Thanks for your prompt response. After I posted the problem with RW Tools, I actually discovered the issue was with TS2019. Again, I had to verify files and found over 4000 corrupted files. At this point, I am experiencing TS2019 issues like that practically every week.

My Windows 10 install seems to be stable and I can't figure out what is happening with TS2019. Are you aware of anything that might help me check out my computer. It's not that old and I don't have problems with any other software.

Sorry if I've "dumped." I'm just frustrated with my inability to operate or even create scenarios.

Thanks,
Harry

Hi Harry,

I have not been using TS2019 recently, but like you I had to verify files a while ago and also found a heap of files which needed to be downloaded. Steam apparently also deleted a large number of files which I had previously unpacked from .ap archives. So I am having a rest from TS2019 for a while.

Hopefully someone else on here should be able to suggest a fix for your problems.

Thanks for your help, Mike. I just installed Trainz: A New Era. Going to give it a try.

If you are going to do swaps you need to make sure that everything you are dealing with is outside of the .ap folders or it won't work properly. I did try the particular swap you are talking about and it worked here. I did it on a free roam scenario that I stuck the F7 into first.

Thanks for your suggestions Buzz. One problem is that many times the .ap files are not unpacked. I have used RW Tools to manually unpack, but the good friends at DTG say that process is a no-no. Should I go to the scenario in the TS2019 editor first and associate the files?

Harry
You can unpack with 7z or Winrar, just drop the .ap file onto the relevant icon.

If you unpack with 7zip or WinRar then the unpacked files are read-only. You then have to make them read/write before you can do anything with them.

If you unpack with RW_Tools they are automatically made read/write.

Which process did DTG say is a no-no? I realise that at one time their policy in support was to say that RW_Tools should not be used for anything! Despite that one of their directors did ask if I could write some utilities for them, but that came to nothing due to a change in staff. I think their real problem was that many RW_Tools users did not read the instructions on various subjects, and instead of asking me about problems they caused, they asked DTG support who of course had no idea what the user was talking about and caused them a lot of extra work.

Meanwhile, if you want a really good program to swap locos etc, try LuaCreator which is available from Rudolf Heijink in the Netherlands at https://www.hollandhiking.nl/trainsimulator/ this is a beta version but works very well.

Hi Mike,

DTG Matt posted a while back that it was best not to try to manually unpack .ap files. I've used RW Tools and 7zip in this process for years. At this point, I'm looking for possible issues that continually creates errors or corrupt RW files.

Thanks for the suggestion of LUA Tools. Will give it a look.
