Markers (sidings, portals etc) in the editor

Unread postby mindenjohn » Sat Jan 12, 2019 12:30 pm

I have "lost" the capability to place markers on sidings and portals (I rarely use the other markers but they don't work either). I can place the cursor on the track when in the object editor (signal section) and the two back to back yellow markers appear and they will move as I move the cursor BUT they do not stay put nor does the central Red marker appear at all. It is this red marker that is used to name the marker and its position in the center of the section determines the length of the marker so without it it is useless as a marker system. This has been a problem over the last month (I took a break from building/editing) and only really noticed it when I tried to convert "Small Slope" labels into English. I then found I couldn't do any markers at all. I have in the past had temporary problems placing Portal markers and signals alongside track as the tag to the track has not appeared. Re-starting the computer has always resolved this but not now. Deleting "Small Slope" has achieved no change. Uninstalling and re-installing TS completley (major, major...) has not resolved it either . HELP Please!!! I'm stumped, anyone any ideas please?

I feel a real chump! I console myself that I probably wasn't the first and I probably won't be the last!
My problem was self inflicted although I thought that there might have been a problem with TS2019 editor but (as far as I know (and what do I know??) there isn't. I must have, when trying something that I don't know what, have gone into the editor and clicked on the "monitor" icon and then onto the RH top flyout and clicked in there. I don't remember doing it but as that is how I resolved it I must have at some point. I have tested this theory a few times and it works everytime both the losing and the re-finding. Big sigh of relief and sorry for wasting everyone's time, hopefully a lesson learned and hopefully I won't forget another time. Now what was I talking about......?

And I have now discovered how I managed to "lose" the capability to place signals....
Reading various posts in the forums I noted someone mentioned having similar difficulties and there was a suggestion to "switch off" the auto rotate feature in the bottom left flyout. Why this should have any effect on the problem is a mystery but it DOES.
Tried the suggestion today and .....it works. I can now get on with the extension to Genesis Crossing that has been stalled for a couple of months. Phew.....
Who said this hobby is relaxing???

Depending on who you are with, talking to yourself is sometimes the only way to have an intelligent conversation.

In my world you need to be very skeptical of experts. Mainly they are self identified.

Yep found out about the "Auto-Rotate" not letting you place items fault after a half hour of hair pulling. Used it to place some livestock in a field and then had a cow when I couldn't add stuff to the tracks. I was udderly stumped until I had that "ah-ha" moo-ment of inspiration.
