Cadillac WIP

Unread postby GreatNortherner » Wed Jul 06, 2011 4:32 pm

Colleagues,

Below is a screenshot from 3DC of an SD7/9 which I've started working on about a year ago. I'm trying to complete this one soon, but I don't have so much free time at the moment so we'll see how that goes. I'll try to post some updates from time to time.

Cheers,

I've been thinking about how awesome it would be to have this one on my locomotive roster.

As Papa has already suggested, Southern Pacific is a must for this one; but please also try do PRR, Conrail and Denver & Rio Grande Western if you can.

Here's at least one cab photo of one of these, on the engineer's side.

Will you be releasing a beta of this?

I obviously don't know what your plans for liveries are, but I'm gonna throw these out here for the repainters. I'm not usually interested in either of these railroads, but their liveries look really good on SD9s:

I was being flip last night, very tired. I would love to see this loco done, and I'd be willing to help with painting if you'd wish.

EMD SD9 From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Prime mover EMD 567C
Cylinders V16
Power output 1,750 hp (1.30 MW)
Disposition Many have been rebuilt, and are still in service.

An EMD SD9 is a 6-axle diesel locomotive built by General Motors Electro-Motive Division between January 1954 and June 1959. Power was provided by an EMD 567C 16-cylinder engine which generated 1,750 horsepower (1.30 MW). This model is, externally, similar to its predecessor, the SD7. The principal spotting feature are the classification lights on the ends of the locomotive, above the number board. The SD9's classification lights are on a small pod, canted outward. The last phase of construction had a modified carbody similar to the SD18 and SD24, and used two 48-inch cooling fans instead of four 36-inch cooling fans.

Four hundred and seventy-one examples of this locomotive model were built for American railroads, and 44 for export.

CNW eventually rebuilt their SD9's into SD9m's (citation needed): http://www.rr-fallenflags.org/cnw/cnw6604dsa.jpg
Union Pacific never ordered the SD9.

I agree with all the above paint scheme's all the ones I would like are mentioned. !!*ok*!! !*cheers*!

I am sure anything Michael works on will be worth the wait. An old EMD like this will be a very nice addition to any RW collection. They would need to be old and dirty looking though. I find these types of units look best like that.

Hi,

Thanks for asking, but this will have to wait until at least all older models made it into RW3. !*not-ok*!
But I really want to complete it!

Cheers,
Michael

Michael,
How about a few Bessemer and Lake Erie, DM&IR, also dont forget the Pennsylvania,Penn Central and Conrail. Southern Pacific had some great SD9's with the wig-wag search light .

Hi,

A quick update on the SD7. I spent the last couple of nights adding some more details to the base model and started to map some textures on it, so it's slowly beginning to look like an SD7 now. Still a looong way to go though. If possible I may however do what I did with the Doodlebug and release this as a working but unfinished model once it's able to walk on its own.

Image

I've also started to add some "kit" parts, like winterization hatch, bay windows, dynamic brakes, horns, etc., so this model should be easy to mod for later paint versions. My initial models are going to be GN (of course) and then maybe CBQ, MILW and PRR. The "Q" and the Pennsy had these with only one fuel tank between the trucks, which I always found strange but cool looking.

Cheers!
