No update yet for Train Simulator 2018

Unread postby cnbalasub » Thu Nov 30, 2017 10:47 am

I am writing for my friend who is not on this forum. My friend texted me yesterday and wonder why he did not get the free update of Train Simulator 2018. He had his program of Train Simulator 2017 on his MSI gaming laptop. He asked me if he have to purchase new simulator. I told him that he shouldn't buy unless I am wrong. Also he said that should he contact DoveTail Games about this. I told him that he should wait till I get a reply from anyone here about this. If he is getting a free update of new simulator and tell me how to get the free update in Steam.

Thank you,

John

Trust me, you don't want it. The 2018 update to v60.1b has brought nothing but splash screens, useless buttons on the main menu, and terrible game instability to a large number of members in the community.

Has today's update to v60.4c improved your experience?

I have v60.4c and it seems to be working fine although I have to say that I wasn't having any problems with the earlier one. I as usual doctored the opening to get rid of all the annoying trains racing around and such but other than that all is well here so far.

John TS2018 works fine for me and I have no issues with it. TS2017 should automatically update to TS2018 when he logs into Steam. Contact Steam Support if he is having issues not DTG.

I am just getting the latest update. Hopefully it fixes it. I wasn't even able to play workshop scenarios as the game would immediately dump.

If you're experiencing a lot of dump issues I'd recommend reinstalling completely. I would actually strongly recommend using many separate installs of Railworks to partition your content. It seems like I always run into more dumps if I have many addons loaded. I keep a separate install of Railworks for almost every kind of content:

- Vanilla (Untouched main installation)
- Modern BNSF
- Modern UP
- Sherman Hill Vintage
- British

I prefer this method as it keeps my Assets folder relevant and clean for each.

If you have a few minutes could you give a brief explanation of how you set up multiple installs?

It's actually quite easy. Go to your main Railworks folder once you do a complete install and copy everything to a different directory. Then go in and delete the assets and Routes that you do not want and viola, separate install.

Be aware that workshop subscriptions will install to every instance you have. If you uncheck a DLC from steam it will not be usable in any installation. And of course if there is an update you will need to manually migrate the updated files to different installs.

Trevor,

Thank you for your reply and will tell my friend that he have to contact Steam via email. For me I don't have any issues with Train Simulator 2018 and it was installed on the first day of the release. Everything look good with no problem. I am not quite sure about my friend till I see him in person with his laptop including the program of Train Simulator 2017 inside his laptop and see why he can't get the update of Train Simulator 2018? Also I do know that he had another simulators in his laptop with Microsoft Flight Simulator X Steam Edition and other games too.

Thank you,

John

Do you know what causes the instability (given users are not using Armstrong Powerhouse's Route Stability Enhancement Pack*)?

Unfortunately it only supports mostly British routes. I hope AP extends support to more routes such as SH, MP, PS, NYNH, NSCD, NJCL, FRC, and many more
