So I downloaded the K3L and I wanted to put it on the CN SD40-2W I made several attempts but the horn was still the K3H that came with the sound pack

There's a tutorial on his site to install the horn. It points right back to RWA: http://railworksamerica.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=18860 make sure your bin file is set to read/write also.

It would be nice if you want help if you would describe what it was you did in your attempt several times.

I tried coping the .bin ( from the search light ) into the SD40-2W but that didn't work so i copied the proxyml into it but that didn't work

Why not just go into the engine bin file and alias it to the one you are trying to use?

The way I change hornsounds, and is probably the longer method, is to copy the folder containing the K3L sound parts somewhere into the desired locomotives audio folder, usually where the stock horn is. Then a make a copy of the K3L's horn control proxyxml to the desktop.

Using a text editor (I use Notepad), open the proxyxml and for each sound reference, change the destination of where the K3L folder is located. (Because the Searchlight simulations have so many sounds that are referenced, I use the "Replace" function in Notepad." Save your changes.

Now change the name of the modified K3L proxyxml to exactly the same as the original horn proxyxml. BACK UP THE ORIGINAL JUST IN CASE. Then move your modified K3L proxyxml from the desktop to the audio folder. If it asks to overwrite, click yes.

Test it out. This method allows you to run the engine in game without having to reference Searchlight Simulations in the asset selector for every scenario that locomotive is in.

Unfortunately if you look at the New horn it has a Dynamic bell as well and these new horns and bells take A LOT more then the traditional method of changing horns. Due to the addition of the dynamic bell there is a new child sound object in the engine bin file and requires you to use the new engine script as well. So you would need to make a new engine bin and copy the script over also. If this is the horn you got https://www.searchlight-simulations.com/nathan-k3lr2-can It can only be applied to repaints of the Default Kuju SD40-2 due to the engine bin file and script.

Ah I didn't realize this was a new horn with dynamic bell. I will need to take a look at this further once Im home.

there is a K3L in the RWA library with a bell that would easily fit the SD40-2W. The installation would be more straight forward

Upon further inspection, I already have the K3L that John linked to and my method stated above will work. I have this horn sound working on several different locomotives. If you need further help, shoot me a PM, I'll be glad to lend some assistance.
