Railworks Crashes at Loading screen

Unread postby Fleegle411 » Sat Nov 26, 2016 12:04 pm

The other day I was running Railworks and motoring along like usual (in windowed mode) when the game popped up a messgae box indicating the program had Saved a dump file, despite continuing to run as if nothing happened. Everything seemed to keep on chugging as usual. After a minute or so I closed the program and didn't bother starting it back up again. Last night I tried to fire Railworks up but it crashed on the loading screen while "Updating Scenario Database". Several verifications of the game cache have not solved the problem. I ran logmate and this is what it came up with:

Code: Select all
[RunTimeError 11:56:17 AM] Trace mdump.cpp : 422 = error handlers have been set
[Content 11:56:17 AM] Trace cBlueprintLibrary.cpp : 417 = Blueprint set not found : Kuju, RailSimulatorCore
[Content 11:56:17 AM] Trace cBlueprintLibrary.cpp : 448 = Blueprint set not found for: Cameras\EditCamera001.xml
[Content 11:56:57 AM] Trace cEntity.cpp : 1272 = Missing blueprint "Edd3itbr5Giz-mo\Sfaenab61Markers\Standard Scenario Marker.xml"
[Content 11:57:00 AM] Trace cEntity.cpp : 1272 = Missing blueprint "
"
[RunTimeError 11:57:01 AM] Trace mdump.cpp : 381 = Dump taken

Any light ya'll could shed on this would be much appreciated.

Have you installed any workshop items recently, if so remove them and re-evaluate the concern.

I haven't installed anything off the workshop lately, but I unsubscribed from the last 4 I had added, no change.

Too be sure, I unsubscribed from all workshop items, and that did not fix it.

Lets eliminate a scenery database corruption
Close TS 2017
Navigate to DRIVE:\Folder\STEAM\steamapps\common\railworks\Content
Delete or rename SDBCache.bin and SDBCache.bin.md5 files
Restart TS2017 - does it work?
If not you may need to carry out a cache verification via steam (Verify Integrity of Game Cache)

Deleted those files and ran a cache verification, no change, still crashing before the intro video during the "Updating Scenario Database".

You said

They may still be on your hard drive - unsubscribing does not always delete them! You could use RW Tools to remove all WS scenarios from your hard drive. It has to be done route by route but you can select multiple files in each route and delete them They are colored bright blue by RW Tools.
If you do this you will need to rebuild the SDBCache files as I describe above AFTER deletion.
[or you could copy the "Contents" folder to another drive - delete the original - and then perform a cache verification via steam. You could then copy back (ie merge) the "old" contents folder to see if that causes the problem.]
I guess that you performed a cache verification via steam until it stated that zero files need to be acquired? (preferably rebooting between each verification!)

I have had this happen to me. I ended up backing up my Asset and Content File and then deleting Steam entirely. Then installing Steam, then Train Simulator(Railworks). Make sure it runs at this point then move back Assets and Content Folder. I hope you don't have to do it. I don't know why this happens and even Otto was puzzled as to why this happens. All the best.

I did some digging through the Routes section of the content folder and found that indeed the scenarios that I had deleted were still there, but the scenario properties xml file was nothing but a bunch of zeros. I deleted those scenario folders (and a few unwanted workshop routes while I was at it) and the game is back up and running.

This way of unsubscribing from WS items seems to delete them from your computer. Go to your Steam WS page, click on the Your Files icon, and in the drop down menu select subscribed items, then in the next window you can unsubscribe from WS items. I deleted all 350 of my WS items this way as I was having crashing issues which stopped after unsubscribing from them.

Good point, but what we are saying is that even if you use the method you describe, the WS scenario may NOT be deleted from your PC.
Its idiosyncratic and there is no pattern to it, so I use your method and delete any left with RW Tools.

Further once again if you have a good backup plan you can always put parts back in one at a time and quickly isolate where the problem lies. I know I sound like a salesman for them but for under $100 you can buy a external solid state hard drive with the software included that makes backups without you having to do anything after the setup. It has saved me hours and days when bad things happened.
