Dog Fighting

Unread postby NYWhiskey » Wed Jun 29, 2016 8:20 pm

Who here remembers Combat Flight Simulator? I haven't had a good dog fight in over 15 years. There is a free game called World of Warplanes. Well it's free if you want to start in a bi-plane and work your way up.

For ten bucks though I bought a premium plane, Corsair, and got right into the mix. GREAT dog fights, you can't beat it for a $10 investment. Yje graphics are crazy cool too!.

I have all 3 MS Combat Flights. I preferred F15 Strike Eagle though ;) I was better than the Top Gun...

I have DCS and Falcon BMS but I haven't really gotten into them since I don't have TrackIR yet.

I do.
I played a lot of CFS1, 2 and 3. The best to me was CFS2 in the Pacific.
I was also in the Microsoft beta teams in both CFS2 and CFS3. Unfortunately CFS3 was not as successful as the two previous versions, which ended with the series (and then I replaced it by MSTS and other later Combat sims).
I also developed some files for it, like a series of missions and airfield scenery for "In Defence for Australia", related with RAAF first operations in Port Moresby (P-41E), plus other works.
And I used to play with the Chaps Squadron.

Also played all imaginable combat jet sims like F15 Strike Eagle and Falcon F16 and many, many others that came later.

I used to make stuff for CFS1. Anyone remember the "ABBA" scenery (Authentic Battle of Britain Airfields)?

My favorite was Falcon 4.0. It was a F-16 simulator. It was like PMDG stuff, the whole computer was simulated. I still have the 350 page binder that came with the original somewhere.

You should check out Falcon BMS 4.33
http://www.bmsforum.org/forum/content.php

It requires the original Falcon 4.0 .exe (Allied Force will not do) but they have made incredible updates to the sim.

And it's free.

BMS only needs to see the Falcon4.exe on your PC, if you have the disc you don't even need to install Falcon4, just point the BMS installer to your disc in the drive. However, if you want to save time and don't mind spending a few bucks ...

http://store.steampowered.com/app/429530/

$3.49 or $4.99 for the collection.

eta ~ the Steam game reportedly does not work well (or at all) as it is provided, being a port from Good Old Games, and the theory is it is only good as a base to get BMS installed. I see one review saying BMS 4.33 isn't available which I'm pretty sure is wrong. BMS 4.33 is provided by a torrent link you get access to after registering on their forums, if you do not post your account will get pruned in time.
