Jumping of throttle and brakes

Unread postby ChuckF » Sat May 07, 2011 12:29 pm

Hi! I noticed of late that when driving NA diesels, that the throttle and brake setting jump from what has been selected. Does anyone know if this is a fault that has developed since the last update, or is this caused by errors in operation?

Are you talking about throttle jump other that going to the next "notch" up or down?

Hi! Yes, all the usual maintenance stuff. The 2 things that have changed are that I've installed the new RailDriver code by MacroWorks, and the RW update to V117.3a. The jumping of the throttle and brakes happens to all engines, and most often when I'm not using RailDriver. I'll inquire over at PI Engineering to see if this has been reported at that site. Cheers

PS:- I just found out from PI Engineering that if MacroWorks 3 is running in the background, it polls RW, whether you are using RailDriver, or not. It has to be turned off by loading MacroWorks, then select File/Exit to make sure it is really off.

Rail Driver with the newest updated drivers, or the old ones, jumping to closed position of the throttle or full wide open will be experienced, methinks has to do with dust or electrical contact within the levers, i.e., throttle lever.

I emailed RD about this, they of course do not advise opening the cabinet, however I have done this with other PC controllers, i.e., PFC flight system, amazing the nonsense that gets within, along with a spray can Radio Shack Contact/Control Cleaner and Lubricant (Product I. D. 64-4315) which does an excellent job of cleaning the unit and avert these jumpy throttle matters.

The RD folks have never had any complaints about this issue, nor have they had the product on the market long enough to have such feedback, course and I concur, such should be done carefully and at least once per year, and at your own risk.

Hi! I had a reply from PI Engineering, and their answer is that when not using MacroWorks3, the program still needs to be opened, and then select File/Exit MacroWorks3 to shut it down, as it loads on StartUp. Cheers;
