Actually the two cable types have switched back and forth with technology improvements. Dual link DVI can carry a lot of data, but so can the HDMI cables designed for 4k monitors.
At this point it's moot, unless you are running multi monitor setups. (or something like G-Sync.)
I've used both on my setup and the differences are so minor, that I suspect it's variations in the actual circuitry on the boards.
I've stuck with DVI only because I have bottom facing ports on my monitor and the HDMI was occasionally falling out, whereas the DVI has screws to make it more secure.
