TS2016 and the Union Pacific Gas Turbine are sick

Unread postby PickeringLumberCorp » Sat Sep 19, 2015 2:23 pm

Just know that I am certainly NOT giving up on TS2016. It is a great game, and I really have a lot of fun playing it. I have uncovered a massive problem though since I bought TS2016, and it is not even a new problem. As far as I am researched, this problem has been in-game since TS2014: the infamous "dump file save crasher".

What happens with this is the game tries to save a dump file when playing (on my particular copy) on either the Union Pacific Gas Turbine or the Sherman Hill route (this has happened to me on other routes in TS2015, but WAY less frequently than these two particular DLC items). The dump file will either be "saved" or it will "fail to save"; either way, this process boots me back to the desktop screen (I'm running on Windows 7) and after displaying a message detailing the outcome of the dump file process, the game will crash. This is honestly very annoying; when I try to play a Sherman Hill scenario, it instantly dump file crashes, and the most run time I have ever gotten out of a Gas Turbine in a single scenario has been about 2 minutes.

I am not the only one encountering this infamous pathogen; there are two more threads that I have looked at dealing with this problem in TS2015.

What I want to know is how to fix this problem, as I specifically bought the full version of TS2016 pretty much only for the Gas Turbine and Sherman Hill (as it was such an interesting piece of American Railroad History). If there is not a fix for it as of right now, I just want to know that DTG is doing something to fix this, as that would greatly reassure me. Thank you very much!

Try turning down your graphics. Maybe your CPU can't handle too much at once. Oh, and try windowing the game too.

I had a game crash the first time I tried to load it since then ran it for over an hour on Sherman Hill with no issues.

Windowing the game, clearing the cache, and changing the graphics have not worked to correct the problem. I have not tried to load into Sherman Hill in the Build tab, yet.

Op what are your computer specs and OS 32 bit or 64 bit without them no one could help you. I don't have any problems running TS 2016 Gas Turbine either.

This is almost certainly a problem at your end. Its not something DTG can fix. Some questions that may lead you in the right direction:

1. Does your PC have the specs to run the program at the graphics quality settings you have selected

2. Could something in your PC be defective or intermittent - memory - power supply - etc.

3. Have you done a lot of customization on your PC - registry settings, drivers etc - something that may be inadvertently interfering.

4. Is there some software installed - either by you, or possibly not by you - that is interfering. What are you running that isn't 'plain vanila'.

Late Edit - I'll add a fifth item

5. Possible File corruption - verify or reinstall: steam, railworks, windows, video drivers, sound drivers etc.

Another thing that causes TS to crash is having to many WS scenarios. I was getting crashes and a DMP file and deleted all 360 WS scenarios/routes I had and the problem disappeared. If you want to read DMP files get Visual Studio as it can read them and see if you can understand how to read a DMP file as even DTG don't know how too.
