(WIP) **CSX Selkirk and Mohawk Subdivisions** From Searchlight Sims!

Unread postby 5292nate » Wed Aug 20, 2014 6:53 pm

Greetings folks. I'm still around, but have been vacationing a bit from things around here. Searchlight is still humming steadily along, but mostly under Kevin's hard work due to me being busy, procrastinating and not having my priorities straight. But alas, I am back to show you all a slight preview of what is coming from our route department! Enjoy, for now. More to come. !!*ok*!!

Here's a shot from the future fuel plant. More detail to come. We just wanted to show you all a teaser. !*cheers*!

Thank you for making a CSX route. WE NEED MORE! I got sick of waiting so I started my own a few months back. Check it out Nate if you haven't seen it yet. viewtopic.php?f=31&t=10787

Yours looks good from the screenshot. How about some more screenshots.

So what is the length of the track being done? Details please.

Daniel

No track yet. We are currently getting all the models done and will be starting with the route with the next gen release of TS with the Unreal 4 Engine.

You do realize that if Dovetail goes forward with their next-gen train sim, that it will be a couple of years away? Besides, at 17 or so miles, Selkirk should be relatively easy to pull off. The only real work would be in Selkirk yard and Guilderland.
Cheers!

Yeah but we're going way up to Amsterdam and considering how long it takes us to create stuff for this game due to our high standards, we're off for the next couple years.

My own version got stuck in the mud, and then most of the source material died on an old drive. However, given the current toolset, (and the enhancements announced for TS2015), a couple of folks, working only a few hours each day, could whip a high-quality version in less than six months - even if you extend northwest to Amsterdam, east across the Hudson, or south from Voorheesville to Delanson (old D&H). The line is thick with trees, with most of the modeling in Amsterdam, South Schenectady, Guilderland and Selkirk. There's little else between except roads, a few houses, trees and shrubs.

FWIW, it shouldn't be too hard to convert your source files for use in Unreal.

My version had track from these points, including the Chicago line from Hoffmans to Schenectady, B&M from Rotterdam Jct to Schenectady, as well as the Carman Cutoff:

If you're in need of charts, Multimodalways has most of the Conrail-era sections, and except for the Railex and Guilderland facilities, little has changed since:

Cheers!

Thanks Marc! I don't know if it will take us quite that long, but I'm being rather picky about it's accuracy due to the fact that I grew up watching trains there. There should be progress to show in the next couple of months. !!*ok*!!

The route is on hold until the UE4 release of Train Simulator.

The promised land of UE4 is still far and far away, way over the rainbow.

Can you sort of anticipate the coming of UE4 to get a good head start? All the docs and free tools are out, only the standards/methods/structure or whatever from DTG are not. They might not even know themselves, let alone share them with the partner programme. If you've got to wait for public developer docs to be released by DTG, that could take a while from release.

Some other creators have experimentally exported their 3D models to UE4, and were generally pleased with the results. So I gather you can sort of continue creating assets in 3D modeling tools.

Does the route being on hold also mean the C44-9W is on hold?

Only the route itself is hold, meaning stuff like laying track are things we're not gonna play around with just yet but the actual assets for the route such as scenery etc. are being worked on. Same applies to the AC4400CW. Once she's done, we'll just simply port the model/scripts into the unreal engine and apply the final touches there.
